Is Good Friday not a holiday in Sweden? I have found a number of online references indicating that it is: http://www.hoteltravel.com/sweden/guides/festivals.htm http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/sweden/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnHB (talkcontribs) 10:37, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Does Swedes have the most free time of any country? They enjoy 17(!) holidays - those that fall on Sundays not included. In addition to this, they get at least 5 weeks vacation (by law). This makes for at least 8 1/2 weeks of time off! The Swedes sure love their free time. No wonder they travel so much...

Valid Public holidays

[edit]

The question is if public holidays which always falls on a Sunday (which is always a day off and the day before) should actually count as a public holiday? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.46.252.136 (talk) 09:04, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Walpurgis day?

[edit]

The whole Walpurgis day discussion is anti May Day POV in my opinion. The day is a holiday because of May Day, and for no other reason. I have not seen a calendar mentioning Walpurgis Day in all my life. Not approving of the origins of a Labour day, does not change the fact that it is there, and is the reason for May 1st being a holiday and flag day.

I guess it is always possible to do some research and find a different reason to celebrate if you don't approve of the origins of a holiday, but that does not make it "Several observances at once", it just makes it a personal pet project, not worthy of encyclopediatic inclusion.

I'll probably remove it, or at least reduce it isngnificantly, if nobody disagrees within a few days. Kriko 22:50, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That long-ago comment is obsolete by now. The Walpurgis Night article is long and extensive. Rursus 06:25, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Valborg isn't May day it's the last of april and is a totaly diffrent thing, the article schould say Walpurgis. //Rapio —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.183.136.44 (talk) 19:38, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am swedish and i changed 30th April to Valborg and will continue to change it even if someone returns Walpurgis since no swede has heard of it. Since this is a site for swedish hollidays you should have the correct name for everything that most swedes know —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.233.106.171 (talk) 13:21, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger?

[edit]

Someone put a merger template onto the page, but here's nothing motivating why. That's littering! Rursus 06:25, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And no motivation on the Talk:Swedish festivities either! This is undisciplined, I'll remove the request! Rursus 06:29, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seperation of the table

[edit]

I have seperated the table from the section "Several observances at once", because it simply just makes more sense that way. Although I do realize the comments made in "Several observances at once" are related to the table it is in fact just comments. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Faffia (talkcontribs) 18:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sources?

[edit]

There seems to be a discrepancy between the source (riksdagen.se) and what is written in the article. The defacto holidays are not referenced in https://www.riksdagen.se/sv/dokument-lagar/dokument/svensk-forfattningssamling/lag-1989253-om-allmanna-helgdagar_sfs-1989-253. Is there an official/government source for these holidays? I could not seem to find one, to add those needed references. I believe that riksdagen.se (this is a guess) is only giving the mandatory holidays and the defacto holidays (as listed) are up to the employer. However, there must be a government source referring to them still.
