Image of Pyoderma gangrenosum?

[edit]

I have a picture of a friend's who has this problem. Is anyone interested in picture? If so please let me know and I will get permission to share it. I know this will not be a problem but I always like permission to share personal information. Just a warning, the picture is very true to the problem and people with problems seeing things like this may not appreciate it. Thanks for your time. --Crohnie 14:24, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this would be very useful, thanks very much. If the person who holds the copyright of the picture (the person who took it) gives permission for it to be released under the GFDL (meaning it can be used and distributed freely by anyone who wants to), then Wikipedia can use it. You can upload the file here. I'd suggest removing identifying info (e.g. censoring out the person's eyes if the picture includes their face), because your friend may not want their image on the internet, especially since it's medical in nature. I certainly understand the concern about the disturbingness of the picture, but I feel it could be very helpful to those trying to understand the condition. We can move the picture down the page or do something else to make it less obvious. Thanks very much for helping out the encyclopedia with this useful offer! Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions or want to discuss anything. delldot | talk 08:15, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have any of the things the form asks for. This is a friend who sent me (and others) the picture via email. So does this not conform to the rules or is there another form or way to share it? Thanks, --Crohnie 14:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

I think to use the picture you'll have to figure out who owns the copyright and get their permission. That's all you need, I believe. If your friend took the picture, they'll need to allow the picture to be used under the GFDL. If you don't know who took the picture, you're right, it probably can't be used. Thanks again for the effort! Peace, delldot | talk 02:06, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for taking so long to respond. I am having problems with my computer and having memory problems with it, at least we think. The memory will be here hopefully today. Anyways, my friend emailed me with permission but I have been unable to get my picture file to open so I emailed again with a request for the pictures again and a second email stating it's not owned by anyone else and that I have permission to share it. I haven't been posting here but I have been reading trying to learn something.  :) I will get back to you when I have the info and then try, hopefully with your help, to get the photo to you so that you can see if the pictures are suitable for the needs here. Thanks, --Crohnie 12:40, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for going to all this effort to get us this picture. To be clear, the copyright owner (the person who took the picture, if it hasn't been published) has to grant permission for the picture to be released under the GFDL, so anyone can copy and use it for whatever to their heart's content. That is, permission to use it just on Wikipedia is not enough (see here. this is because all content in Wikipedia is free for others to copy and use, e.g. in mirrors). But as long as the person who took the picture writes that they are ok with releasing it under the GFDL, then it will be no problem. Sorry it's kind of a hassle. I think it will be really useful to have a picture, I think it will give people a much better idea of what we're talking about. If you're concerned about whether the picture is appropriate for the article, you can upload it and link to it here on the talk page, and we can discuss it. Thanks again! delldot | talk 03:11, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again and I understand. As soon as I get the picture (s) and the info you describe I will follow your direction above. The pictures are very graffic especially compared to the one shown in the article plus what I have read about some of the graffic pictures that were in discussion about crohn's disease, I will probably do the latter part so others can see them first to make sure they aren't too graffic for the normal person to access. Thanks, --Crohnie 12:17, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

I finally have the pictures and an email for permission to share these personal pictures. Sorry it took so long, I was having problems with my health. Anyways, I looked at the links and sorry I don't know how to use them so I have asked to see if another person on Wikipedia can help me. --Crohnie 16:45, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

External links on Wikipedia are supposed to be "encyclopedic in nature" and useful to a worldwide audience. Please read the external links policy (and perhaps the specific rules for medicine-related articles) before adding more external links.

The following kinds of links are inappropriate:

  • Online discussion groups or chat forums
  • Personal webpages and blogs
  • Multiple links to the same website
  • Fundraising events or groups
  • Websites that are recruiting for clinical trials
  • Websites that are selling things (e.g., books or memberships)

I realize that some links are helpful to certain users, but they still do not comply with Wikipedia policy, and therefore must not be included in the article. WhatamIdoing (talk) 06:21, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Occurs with SLE (Lupus) too?

[edit]

This problem occurs with lupus also? If someone knows for sure add it too the article. Polypipe Wrangler (talk) 23:44, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Band-Aid

[edit]

"Pyoderma gangrenosum may start out looking like a pimple in an odd spot-typically an area below the belly button. The progression of this anomaly can be halted by applying budesonide cream liberally &covering with a bandaid".[citation needed]
