Puritanism

[edit]

* Two of Mika's most noticeable trademarks are her abnormally large and prominent breasts, which jiggle during her taunt and win poses. Two heart-shaped emblems covering her areolae and nipples serve to draw attention to these unusually massive mammaries.

All of this information is true. It is structured in a grammatically correct form and does not make use of obscene words. Nothing was removed in order to add this information. The information is descriptive of the character in question and is not out of keeping with similar descriptions of hairstyles, height, weight, clothing and other appearance-related traits which are standard for every Street Fighter character with a page on Wikipedia. Furthermore, it is in the "trivia" section, so claims of inconsequentiality are redundant and inappropriate.

The only reason I can then imagine that someone would censor this mundane addition as "vandalism" is the American taboo against nudity or the discussion of 'sexual' organs in general; however, that taboo has not achieved worldwide acceptance, let alone acceptance in the Western world, it is irrational, and importantly the mammaries do not serve any primary sexual purpose (they store milk for babies) though due to various psychological reasons some men have fetishized them. That subjective fetishism should not be the concern of a purportedly neutral encyclopedia.

If tidbits about Chun-Li's hairstyle, Cammy's "revealing" tights, Thunder Hawk's relative physical enormity, Ken Masters' dyed hair or Elena's skin color are deemed appropriate, then there is no reason why this should be censored.

Please do not vandalize this article by deleting information unless you can offer some rational justification. Thank you. 65.98.21.82 11:54, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cite a source for this please, and please point out how it's not pushing a POV. --Locke Cole (talk) (e-mail) 11:57, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
People like you are the exact reason that only people like you will remain active editors at Wikipedia. What can you really do about an obsessive jerk on a power trip, if you're not willing to invest the same amount of time on the article? Obviously, the source is R. Mika's sprite, which can be viewed by anyone who plays the game. Relative to the average female dimensions hers are unrealistic, just like Barbie's.
I notice that you haven't deleted the other 5-6 sentences in this article which are based on observational opinion - why could that be? Why is this particular addition the only thing in this article you are concerned with reverting, and pigeonholing as "vandalism" despite an attempt at reasonable discourse which you answer with sardonicism? But in the long run, who really cares? Since you use Wikipedia more, you win by default. Enjoy your power-trip, and have fun asserting Judeo-Christian ethics inappropriately whenever your personal moral sense is offended. 65.98.21.82 12:10, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, if the source is R. Mika's sprite, that would fall under WP:NOR. Cite a source that says almost all players find her boobs to be "two of [her] most noticeable trademarks". And ROFL at your other trolling comments. I'd answer your questions, but since it seems you're leaving us, it doesn't really matter. Besides, I doubt you really care why I haven't removed the other lines anyways.. --Locke Cole (talk) (e-mail) 12:18, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Meaningless troll-calling and ROFLing aside, you have a point about the subjectivity of that particular phrase. However, rather than modifying it you have excised all of the information, including:
  • That R. Mika's win and taunt animations include breast-jiggling.
  • That heart-shaped emblems cover R. Mika's areolae and nipples.
  • That R. Mika's breasts are unusually large relative to normal female dimensions (I suppose this point could be argued)
Is there any reason these items should not be in R. Mika's trivia section, assuming that my accusation of your Puritanism is incorrect as you seem to indicate? 65.98.21.82 12:40, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
At least, assuming it's true (I haven't seen R. Mika's taunts/win in a long time), I have no problem with the factual details going in. The reason I didn't modify it was because it was worded in a very, uh.. childish manner. I would have been forced to rewrite the entire thing. My proposal--
  • R. Mika's breasts jiggle during her taunt and win poses and are covered by heart-shaped emblems.
I guess the other thing that bugged me about the whole line (including my proposal above) is that it seems obvious: it's not trivia-worthy. I know some of the other stuff in there isn't exactly trivia-worthy either, but my goal has been to keep stuff like this from creeping in and making it even worse. --Locke Cole (talk) (e-mail) 12:51, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"JuJube"'s non-NPOV vandalism

[edit]

You can't just declare that valid content is unencyclopedic. As can be seen above, there was a hashing-out of the breast-trivia issue on the talk page, where edits are supposed to be discussed. User:JuJube has ignored this consensus opinion, has not contributed any argument or coherent opinion to the talk page, and insists upon vandalizing this article to suit his Christian viewpoint, which is apparently that mammary glands and their relative size are offensive tidbits to be blocked indefinitely. 216.139.219.148 01:21, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you atribute the information to a reliable source?Geni 01:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a source for the importance of this character's breasts? As far as I've observed, many- maybe even most- female video game characters have unusually large breasts; unless there's some reason that this character's are special, I don't get why there's a need for a paragraph about them. Of course, if there is a source verifying that this character's breast size is unusual or significant in some way, I'd be happy to rethink that opinion. -FisherQueen (Talk) 01:38, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cited below, from 3 Capcom-licensed or internal sources. Was that just rhetoric, or are you actually willing to rethink your opinion in the face of information which contradicts your viewpoint on the relevancy of breast-size information? 85.13.251.106 02:09, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cited where?Geni 02:53, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure when exactly I became Christian, as my user page makes my religious affiliation quite clear. In any case, it's not being removed in the interests of any sort of censorship, but because it's encyclopedically irrelevant to her character. As FisherQueen said, big busts are not surprising, and the picture makes it clear what her appearance is. JuJube 01:40, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your opinion is what's irrelevant. As discussed above, if hair color is assumed to be a valid topic for inclusion, so too is relative breast size.

As for sources (as if it matters, with the Wikipedia thought police instantly disposing of anyone's additions into the memory hole without any discussion), they are actually quite plentiful: the Udon comic and Street Fighter Legends: Sakura v1 contain references to R. Mika's unusually large mammaries, as does All About Capcom Fighting Games 1987-2000 ("the incredibly busty wrestler") do you have references which suggest that Mika's milk-glands are normal-sized relative to the rest of the Capcom world?

Now that valid sources have been cited, I'm interested to see whether your prudish mentalities will allow you to revert your own censorship. As the contributor above has already opined, there's no point in engaging in edit-wars with Wikipedia hawks who will relentlessly article-squat until their viewpoint is solidified as fact. 85.13.251.106 01:57, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please assume good faith. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 02:02, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Does that go for everyone, or just those who believe that R. Mika's elephantine mammaries deserve a mention in her article? 85.13.251.106 02:09, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I consider it very offensive that with all the other far more important political disputes going on in Wikipedia, you choose the size of a fictional character's breasts to hang your hat on. JuJube 02:21, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Anon: Yes, it goes for everyone. I have it targeted primarily at you because you are most clearly not assuimng good faith (or at least, were not at the time you spoke of censorship and assumed to know JuJube's worldview); however, everyone in this debate should do so. And that's all I have to say for now. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 02:25, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take this. JAGUAR  19:55, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • The lead needs to be expanded per WP:LEAD, I know the article is short and compact, but it should be expanded by a few sentences at least. Perhaps her "butt slap" is a worthy mention?
The lead already talks about the butt slap. I'm not sure what else could be mentioned there.
  • "Street Fighter fighting game series, introduced in the 1998 Street Fighter Alpha 3, and later returns in the 2016 Street Fighter V" - this could be better off being split into another sentence. Try something like She was introduced in the 1998 Street Fighter Alpha 3, and later returned in the 2016 Street Fighter V
Done
  • "Her real name is Mika Nanakawa (七川 美華 Nanakawa Mika?) and is a professional wrestler" - unbolden this
Isn't common practice to also bold the real name of a character if they are best known under a nickname?
  • Be consistent with calling her "R. Mika" and "Mika" in the Character design and appearances section
Done
  • ""The wrestler's unorthodox usage of her tag team partner Yamato, body slams, and booty slams to the face have been throwing players for a loop lately, and has led to the phrases "overpowered" and "broken" getting thrown around."" - the quotes in the quote should be in single quotes, not double quotes
What does this mean? They are all sing single quotes. "Overpowered" and "broken" has been used as seperate descriptions too.
  • I would move the second paragraph in the Character design and appearances section last. It seems out of place there
Done
  • "R. Mika is a blonde Japanese girl planning to make her debut as a professional wrestler and working very hard to achieve her dream" - sounds a tad informal and like it was ripped from a manual, try In the games, R. Mika is a blonde Japanese girl who plans to make her debut as a professional wrestler and is seen working hard to achieve her dream
Done
  • "Her primary outfit consists of a blue and white wrestling leotard with an eyemask and knee-length white boots. Her outfit slightly differed, depending on the game. In Alpha 3, her breasts were covered by two blue heart shaped patterns, but in SFV the blue hearts were replaced by a heart-shaped hole in the chest of her leotard." - all unsourced
Does this really need to be cited? Anyone who has played those games, or just looked her up on Google Images should know what her outfit is. This seems to be a case of WP:BLUE to me.
You're right, that should be fine! JAGUAR  13:12, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "At Eurogamer, Wesley Yin-Poole labelled Mika as" - no need to italicise
Are you sure? The Eurogamer article is in italics.
It's probably wrong, but I rarely see it italicised. JAGUAR  19:18, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try and fix the rest later on. Kokoro20 (talk) 11:42, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've done some of these now. Kokoro20 (talk) 19:35, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'll leave this on hold until all of the above are addressed. The lead needs to be expanded and a few other things rephrased, but other than that the sourcing is decent. Will keep an eye on this! JAGUAR  20:04, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for addressing of them. I've looked through the article again and this should be good to go. JAGUAR  19:18, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Something about "empowering move" removed from the lead where it wasn't summarizing anything

Article Issue

[edit]

This article is not detailed anymore, and needed some work or it will be delisted soon. GlatorNator () 04:32, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Then it'll drop to B and just get worked on until it gets relisted. The reception works at least, it's just a matter of getting the rest to line up. I don't think personally this should've passed GA to begin with, even looking at the 2016 version there's just not really enough info, despite the info being out therethere.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 04:48, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
