Gadolinium as a CT contrast agent

[edit]

The first paragraph of the article mentions (at present) Gadolinium as a CT contrast agent. While I can find references to this in the literature (e.g. https://pubs.rsna.org/doi/abs/10.1148/radiology.210.3.r99mr06829, published in 1999) I have never encountered this in clinical practice, and the iodinated agents are not only those commonly used, listed in e.g. ESC guidelines, etc, but are also those at the bottom of the 'contrast agents' group panel at the bottom of the page. Does anyone use Gd3+ as a CT contrast agent routinely? 129.67.6.121 (talk) 09:03, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Allergy, intolerance, iodine

[edit]

Anyone heard about contrast allergy risk in patients with previous allergic reactions to seafood or shellfish? JFW | T@lk 17:16, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is always the question about cross reaction with iodinated contrast allergies and shellfish (which apparently contains a lot of iodine.) It's quite overblown and likely not true at all. The general practice is to premedicate these people, but it's more for medicolegal reasons, rather than for any worry about the patient developing a reaction. More concern is for anyone to have allergic asthma since childhood or any other (or multiple) allergies that causes hives or anaphylaxis. Ksheka 13:30, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Right on the nose. I had to do a review of the literature for a paper so I just included the relevant section into the wiki article. I wasn't sure where to put the section, so I just stuck it in the reactions section --Zyryab 16:45, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Contrast media table

[edit]

Any objections if I add a table of some commonly used contrast agents, their osmolarities, and a couple other simple things about them? It's useful for invasive cardiologists at the very least. Ksheka 13:27, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done Ksheka 16:48, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The table probably belongs under contrast medium, or limit the table here to radiocontrast media. Una Smith 17:35, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ioxaglate's osmolality makes it a low osmolar ionic contrast medium. It should not be listed as high osmolar. Also, the section heading "High osmolar (ionic)" suggests that the terms are interchangeable which, as illustrated by this example, are not. Contrast medium

[edit]

Why is the Contrast Medium redirected to this page? I was going to add a notion about Contrast_enhanced_ultrasound, microbubbles used as CM in ultrasonography, but realize that these pages needs to be reorganized. Can anyone look at this? Martin 12:35, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Now contrast medium does not redirect here. But some text on each page belongs on the other. Una Smith 17:33, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Contrast Medium" with a capital "M" still redirects here altough "Contrast medium" does not. Let me see if I can get to the redirect page but otherwise can someone get the two to line up please Arfgab (talk) 20:26, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Excretion of barium sulfate

[edit]

I have always believed that barium sulfate is excreted through urine - I was told this by my radiologist, if I recall. I am having a CT scan in a few days, I will ask and edit this page or the barium sulfate page based on the answer. --Intx13 03:16, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
