The image in the infobox

People keep changing the image in the infobox. Some people prefer File:Rahul Gandhi.png (taken in 2024), whilst others prefer File:Rahul Gandhi in Shillong (cropped).jpg (taken in 2018) or File:Rahul Gandhi speaking (cropped).jpg (taken in 2018). @Ah507, GaiusAugustine, Zendrago X, and MrMkG: Do any of you have reasons for preferring one picture over another? -- Toddy1 (talk) 06:36, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

File:Rahul Gandhi.png seems to be edited and modified, with white in the background it also seems very low quality. Choose either File:Rahul Gandhi in Shillong (cropped).jpg or File:Rahul Gandhi speaking (cropped).jpg. Ah507 (talk) 08:27, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
2024 image
  • The most recent image provides the most accurate representation of Rahul Gandhi's current appearance. People change over time, and using an outdated image might not reflect his current age, style, or demeanor accurately.
  • A recent image ensures relevance to the current period and context. If the purpose of the Wikipedia page is to provide up-to-date information about Rahul Gandhi, using a recent image aligns with that goal.
  • Users are more likely to engage with content that feels current and reflects the present reality. A recent image can capture attention and interest more effectively than an older one.
  • Using a recent image demonstrates transparency and commitment to keeping information current. It shows that the Wikipedia page is actively maintained and reflects the latest developments.
  • While historical context can be important, especially for figures with long careers or significant past events, the primary goal of an infobox is to provide accurate and relevant information about the subject as they are now. Therefore, using a 2024 image would be the most suitable choice for Rahul Gandhi's infobox on Wikipedia.
  • A portrait-style image with a white background often conveys professionalism. It provides a clean and uncluttered backdrop, allowing the focus to remain on the subject, in this case, Rahul Gandhi. Images with a white background are versatile and can be easily incorporated into various designs or layouts without clashing with other elements. Using a white background can help maintain consistency across Wikipedia pages. Many infobox images on Wikipedia use a similar format, making the layout cohesive and visually appealing.

In general I agree that the more recent image is preferable, given that he is still working as a politician. But there appear to be issues with File:Rahul Gandhi.png. I suspect that it is an edited PTI photograph taken in 2022. The photograph in this December 2022 India TV News story looks as though it was taken on the same day. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Images#Editing images says that blurring the background is permitted - so blanking the background is probably also OK (though blurring would have been preferable). But it says all changes to images taken from outside sources should be noted on the image's description page. For images created by editors themselves, changes which could have been part of the image's original composition—such as rotation or minor cropping—need not be mentioned on the description page. c:File:Rahul Gandhi.png says that it is the uploader's own work. See c:User talk:Josve05a#Rahul Gandhi.png, which discusses issues with this photograph. So it is remains to be seen whether the image will remain on Commons.-- Toddy1 (talk) 11:33, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
I understand the logic behind recent images, but this rule of recent images does not apply throughout wikipedia, look at the page: Sonia Gandhi. However, the low quality image and editing with the background to white is what is putting the page off. If there is any new image which qualifies to what @Zendrago X is saying then it may be added. the image File:Rahul Gandhi.png should be removed in preference to another. Ah507 (talk) 10:10, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Sonia Gandhi was party leader of the Indian National Congress from 1998 to 2017, so a 2014 image of her makes sense.-- Toddy1 (talk) 10:19, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Same logic should apply to Rahul Gandhi as well since he was only the party leader of the Indian National Congress from 2017 to 2019. If the basis for using the current image of Rahul Gandhi is on him being a Member of Parliament, in that case, Sonia Gandhi is too an incumbent Member of Parliament.
Therefore, this logic seems inconsistent in terms of why a recent image should be used for Rahul Gandhi and not Sonia Gandhi. Ah507 (talk) 19:55, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
Rahul Gandhi is currently active in politics and he is one of the leader of INC. Sonia Gandhi is not active in politics now. ZenDragoX (User) | (Contact) 11:33, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
Sonia Gandhi is indeed active in politics and is a current Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and was previously Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha. If not, then clarify by what you mean by "active in politics".
Rahul Gandhi holds no incumbent leadership position in the INC itself, although he is the chairman of the NSUI and IYC. Ah507 (talk) 07:06, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
I have updated the image to File:Rahul gandhi.jpg as it a more recent image of him in 2024. Should alleviate concerns with the low quality, and editing of the previous image (File:Rahul Gandhi.png), as well issues with the recentness of the image. Ah507 (talk) 07:21, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
You should upload a picture that is freely licensed otherwise it would get deleted. ZenDragoX (User) | (Contact) 09:43, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

File:Rahul gandhi.jpg has been deleted, so an editor added this 2022 photograph File:Rahul Gandhi 2022.jpg.[1] I take the point about the imperfections of File:Rahul Gandhi.png (taken in 2024), but I would prefer to go back to Rahul Gandhi.png because it shows his face better. Rahul Gandhi 2022.jpg shows his left ear better.-- Toddy1 (talk) 09:53, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

There are many good pictures of him on his YT channel, but problem is that the video has license of Creative Commons Attribution licence (reuse allowed), but in description there is mentioned that "The IP of this video belongs to Rahul Gandhi. Unauthorised usage is prohibited and will be prosecuted". And many news channel and YT channels use those videos, but that line is little confusing. So I need advice that can I upload picture from there as there is CC license mentioned there or it is not allowed to upload. That is really confusing. Please use this photo Rahul Gandhi, January 2018.jpg, this photo is better, as this one Rahul Gandhi 2022.jpg looks "sus" and this one File:Rahul Gandhi.png looks like a "mugshot" Redmyname31 (talk) 14:57, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
That picture is old and he does not look like that now. ZenDragoX (User) | (Contact) 13:14, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Source: he has served as the 12th Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Edit: he is serving as the 12th Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Ravikiranias (talk) 10:18, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Not done: The current sentence is grammatically correct. "He is serving ... since June 2024" would be wrong. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 13:50, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
