This article is a very well-developed overview on the topic with relevant images and thorough historic information. The gallery portion gives a good visual representation. —Didara M (talk) 03:28, 23 February 2020 (UTC).

Not clear

My main queston was what how much of the original roman structure remains unaltered. it was not answered by this article Andrewjlockley (talk) 14:01, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Controversy

The "Gorgon's Head", Reference is often made to the "snakes" in the beard, herafter called serpents. There are attributes of the serpents that are not found in snakes. The shape of the heads though weathered is not usual for most snakes. There is a sentral "ridge" to the spine of the serpents not found in snakes. The tails taper, in line with the ridge, on several of the serpents to a flatened tail. Finally the bodies of the serpents fold completely, with creases in the tightness of the bend, an ability that snakes do not have.
