In the Philanthropy section Shahid Afridi Foundation is mentioned but it is not linked to the website https://shahidafridifoundation.org/ the link should be added.

Teams and season

[edit]

We're about to run out of team slots for Afridi - the infobox only allows teams up to 18.

I propose that we remove any T20 only teams that he has played for for only a single season - except the most recent team. Then we add a note to explain why and, if required, create something in the article - and this may be the place for a table or list - to summarise the T20 teams he's played for.

Full names in Urdu and Pashto

[edit]

I think that his full name should be written in Urdu and Pashto, instead of just Shahid Afridi. So there will be (صاحبزادہ محمد شاہد خان آفریدی) instead of just (شاہد آفریدی) Eigengrau24 (talk) 15:57, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth

[edit]

In the article, Afridi's birthdate is written 1975, whereas in the info box thing, it is written 1980. These dates need to be the same, and in my opinion, we should go by what Afridi said in his autobiography, which is 1975. Eigengrau24 (talk) 16:06, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Multan Sultans captaincy

[edit]

Afridi was never appointed captain of Multan Sultans. It is incorrectly stated in the Pakistan Super League section that he was "retained as captain for Multan Sultans for the 2020 season". This should be corrected. Eigengrau24 (talk) 16:16, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stint at Northamptonshire in 2015

[edit]

Shahid Afridi played for Northamptonshire in 2015. This is missing from his domestic team information. References as follows: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/30983675 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/33119888 2A00:23C5:6802:8D00:2D4B:45CB:D788:8ADE (talk) 14:44, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's probably because there aren't enough slots available in the infobox. The "Teams and Seasons" section of the talk page, above, deals with this point. I'll take a look at the list in the article later and add a note as well as doing a bit more tidying up. Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:01, 9 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dealt with it by simply removing any team he only played one season for. Was considering keeping in the FC ones but opted not to for simplicity in the end. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:00, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

His age

[edit]

Whatever he said in his autobiography, it doesn't make much sense as per this cricinfo article. If enough sources contest the source used in the page, it should be overriden. A good example of this is the article on Marcus Stoinis. Refer to its edit history, evaluate the sources on Afridi's age and then make a decision.  Note: One of the sources in the article ([1]) says 1975, but the profile from the same outlet ([2]) says 1980. 1980 does seem to be more widely reported, but 1975 seems to be newer information. I'm not really sure what to believe here... — LauritzT (talk) 13:56, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note: I checked the sources under "Early and personal life", near the current statement about the 1980 date, noted that neither source actually backed that date and tried changing it, then realized that the claim was added after the sources were already there, so I reverted myself. If there are sources about the previously-reported date, they should be referenced there to help prevent somebody else from making my mistake as well. ASUKITE 14:12, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

I'll review this. Hope to find time over the weekend. BoJó | talk UTC 16:18, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There has been significant improvement since the first review in 2018 which resulted in an immediate fail. I will need more time to check the sources but I'm placing the article on hold now because of concerns about the prose. There are too many short paragraphs and the lead, which should have 3–4 paragraphs, is chronologically disjointed. Some rewriting will be necessary. One thing I noticed immediately is that some sections talk about Afridi as if he is a current player. The article needs to be consistent in use of the past tense as regards his playing career. I don't do deadlines so there is no rush to make changes. Please ping me when you would like me to continue the review. It's an interesting article about a very fine player but it just needs some more oversight. Thanks. BoJó | talk UTC 19:42, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Boca Jóvenes:, thanks for your review. I’ve tried to improve on the prose and hopefully it is fine now. If there are any more problems you see, feel free to ping me. Thanks,  Hamza Ali Shah  Talk 20:28, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Hamza Ali Shah, and thanks for attending to this so promptly. I've read the article this morning and, after another quick look, I'm satisfied that it should now be promoted. It was actually very close yesterday. The prose and lead are fine. Coverage is particularly good with everything in scope in summary style. I'm happy with the citations and sources. There are no problems with stability, original research, POV or anything like that. Images are appropriate and I can't see any problems with them. So, all in all, this is a good article. I'll do the necessary at GA. Well done.

Improved to Good Article status by Hamza Ali Shah (talk). Self-nominated at 00:39, 23 October 2022 (UTC).[reply]

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: None required.

Overall: @Hamza Ali Shah: Good work! However, I cant seem to verify your hook. Could you either explain the source to me or provide a different one. Thanks. Onegreatjoke (talk) 01:47, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi @Onegreatjoke: Thanks for your reply! In the source it states "he had not batted in his only previous international" which verifies that this was his first international innings and it also states: "and dashed to a hundred in 37 balls, 11 fewer than the limited-overs international record" which verifies that Afridi broke the record for ODI cricket. If you do require another source, this is an alternative. Hope this helps!  Hamza Ali Shah  Talk 12:30, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Hamza Ali Shah: Alright then, approving nomination. Onegreatjoke (talk) 14:42, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

In the main page, the birth date is 1980, but in the information box, it's 1977.

1977 is the right call.

1980 was the old mistaken date, 1977 is the one confirmed by himself and others, as shown in that Dawn News source found in the information box :

"“It is definitely a miscalculation by the publisher ... Shahid played his first One-day International at the age of 19,” the source said. “He was born in 1977.”"

https://www.dawn.com/news/1480141

(Dawn News is also the most trusted English language publication of the country)

So it would be great if the information in the main page follows the information box (so 1977 instead of 1980), the 2 sources are already included in the information box.

Thanks.

Semi-protected edit request on 23 February 2023 (additional info in early and personal life cat)

[edit]

Greetings, there's info I want to add in the early/personal life category.

It's based on a reputable source (one of the largest Pakistani newspaper), itself basically quoting from Afridi's autobiography (Game Changer).

It's a whole paragraph that should be situated between "for his efforts during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947–1948" and "He is married to".

It would go like that :

"[...] for his efforts during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947–1948.

He has six brothers, including fellow cricketers Tariq Afridi and Ashfaq Afridi, and five sisters, in terms of birth rank Shahid Afridi being at number five, and credits his uncle, a colonel in the Pakistan Army, for introducing him to sports in general and to cricket in particular.[1]

He is married to [...]"

Thanks

[edit]

Greetings, not a dramatic change, but currently his height is shown as 6 ft but in the source quoted it's written 5 f 11, so I guess we could replace this :

| height = 6 ft[1]

By this :

| height = 5 ft 11 in[2]

Thanks.
