Where was it?

[edit]

Article says building still stands on south side of Stratford High Street but the coordinates added to the article plot on the north side of that road, where Station Street runs parallel to the railway. Stratford Market Depot is 300 to 500 m south of the High Street.--SilasW (talk) 15:58, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is on the south side, built on a bridge over the lines - if you zoom in with a mapping website you can see the building. The subbrit site shows a picture of the back of the building. Looks like the article co-ordinates need moving. Scillystuff (talk) 16:13, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Might today's "wrong" co-ords be for an earlier station as Station Street is north of the the main road and the first reference in the article says (my bold & sic):

Notes: It was rebuilt in 1960 (sic). With the opening of the Great Eastern's vegetable market the station was renamed Stratford Market on 1st November 1880. In 1892 the station was once again rebuilt and partially resited to accommodate two additional lines for freight traffic, this included a new building on Stratford High Street.

I think the Station Street was access to Stratford (West Ham) station, judging from this map. I can't find any map or photo evidence for the station buildings or platforms being north of the main road, but I have nothing earlier than 1930. Scillystuff (talk) 11:57, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaned Up

[edit]
Stratford High Street DLR Station Northern Entrance May 2011.

I cleaned up the image, it was a bit too dark, so I altered the lightness of it a bit so I could see the roadway, etc.Wipsenade (talk) 10:49, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Date of opening of previous station

[edit]

1846 or 1847? If the former, can the entry on the London wiki [1] be updated please. Jackiespeel (talk) 15:55, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

14 June 1847 (see Butt 1995, p. 222). Dates on other Wikis are outside our control; and being Wikis, must never be used as sources. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:35, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name change

[edit]

Just before I get the green light, I propose that the name be changed to Stratford High Street railway station (DLR) to fit with the naming convention of the rest of the train stations. LordSavage1997 (talk) 16:18, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@LordSavage1997 No, as it matches the majority of (non interchange) DLR stations - Abbey Road DLR station, Star Lane DLR station, Beckton DLR station, Elverson Road DLR station etc etc. Do not change this without seeking consensus - the best place for that would be Wikipedia:WikiProject London Transport. Turini2 (talk) 17:04, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Probably best to take it to WP:UKRAIL as that WikiProject is more over-arching than the LT one, if you wanted to change it. I do, however, doubt it would gain much support, however. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 17:43, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
