The article, particularly the Ecosystem section reads like an advertisment, having never played this particular game I'm unsure how to edit it correctly to stop it sounding like an advertisment, but still maintain the essentiall truth of the subject, perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge on the subject to attempt to rewrite the article. 124.169.40.67 (talk) 05:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agreed and removed it, as I don't see any reference to this feature in reviews. And to be very honest, I didn't even notice it when I was playing the game, and therefore not even sure if the feature really existed. Ham Pastrami (talk) 07:28, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Erroneous Claim

[edit]

The claim that the game features women for the first time ever in a settlers game is entirely incorrect, see [[1]]

Well, as a major aspect of the gameplay. not just because a race is female as in settlers 3. They are now as spouses, i will edit this. Philbuck222 22:18, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:VG assessment

[edit]

I'm rating this Stub-Class, Low-Importance. Though Stub may be the lowest rating on the scale, don't let this deter you: the only thing needed to get this article up to Start-Class is content. Usually when doing an assessment I'd comment on specific points in the article which need improvements, but with Stub articles there isn't much point as there's not much to comment on. I'll point you at WP:VG#Featured content. Have a look for an article (or several articles!) on a video game in that list similar to this one, and use it/them as an example to follow. This is a good way to develop technique, and learn loads of new things (I speak from experience). Hope this helps, Una LagunaTalk 20:32, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:VG Assessment 2

[edit]

Now the article indeed has content, but, and again, do not let this deter you, some of the wrong kind of content, and some content that needs to be improved. Suggestions and comments:

  • The lead section needs a second paragraph that summarises the article.
  • The Gameplay section could use a general introduction, instead of a section entitled "features", which is usually associated with advertisements. Be basic and descriptive of the Gameplay, then go into detail as to what makes the game unique. Also, the list of Knights is not appropriate for Wikipedia. It's probably found in the game's manual too, and doesn't tell a reader who doesn't play the game anything useful.
  • You probably expected this, but the Reception section really need to be expanded. Finding more reviews is easy through sites like Metacritic and Gamerankings. It's ok to go into details here: authors of the reviews, why they thought that, etc.
  • Merge Demo and Beta into one section called Development which also copies the information on the Limited Edition from the lead section. This is common practice in video game articles - see some of the examples listed at WP:VG/A.

I've promoted the article to Start-class, because it has improved a lot. If the above points are worked upon, A-class is not far ahead. User:Krator (t c) 00:44, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have addressed the gameplay section and the merging of small sections. If someone else wants to tackle the reception, development, and lead, that's probably where effort is most needed now. I have upgraded to C-class, and bumped importance to mid, because I think all actual game titles should be at least mid... IMO low is for crufty borderline articles like character lists. Expansion Pack

[edit]

There is a new expansion pack out for The Settlers Rise of an Empire now. Can anyone find out about it and create a page for it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkside2000 (talkcontribs) 10:00, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added a heading to this article about the new expansion pack from what I've been able to gather on it, but I'm not experienced enough with Wikipedia to know how to create a whole new page for it. Valacan (talk) 18:10, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reception.

[edit]

By the 1.6 update, most negative feedback is concerning the games unfriendliness with nVidia cards & the copyprotection's unfriendliness with many drivers.
