[edit]

My name is Spencer Davenport I'm currently 15 and i am a sophmore in highschool. Three years ago in 2004 my mom was dignosed with Leiomyosarcoma'. She went to the hospital because she had severe fever and puking. when she went into the hospital they told her that she had a very low potasium level. . I personaly think that the cancer some how affects the potasium level. They also found that she had an ulcer in her stomach. the docters told her that they could not treat her ulcer because of the chemotherapy. Then after two years fighting the cancer she started to more symptoms that she have had before. So we took her to the hospital and they found agian that her potasium was very low. they also found that the ulcer had broken open and was lrtting air and infection get into her stomach. We all wondered why aftr the chemotherapy stoped why wouldn't they treat that ulcer. We then asked the docter why they didn't treat it, and the docter was speechless.because of that hole my mom had to suffer a long long recovery. They thought that she would never breath on her own with out oxygen, or even that she would walk. they gave her 6 months to live she lived for 1 year. My mom never gave up hse always fought through all the pain that she had. In those two years she learned to walk she threw away her oxygen machine and had over come the the suspected problems. Towards the end of her life the cancer started to progress again the tumors all over her body had started to grow bigger and eventuly she died on November 16, 2007. she had a lot of influence on all of us. My sister and brother were that ones who took it the hardest.

My grandpa is going through severe depression. He was there every day because some of us had school and work. He was the that was there for my mother. I hope that my story to you will inspire you to ask questions to whats going on because in the long run it might not even be the cancer that kills you. Like my mom the docter had made mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes and some are bigger and more serious mistakes. I'm telling you that you can ask questions don't be afraid it might even be a life saver.

Wikipedia is not an appropriate forum for giving advice to patients. There are many patient-centered chat boards on the web if you'd like to share your story. (BTW, it's much more likely that the low potassium was caused by the severe puking than by the ulcer. Do an internet search on the keywords "vomiting potassium" for more information.)
