Weirsdale Citrus is Dead

The article overstates the existence of the citrus packing industry in Weirsdale. The last packing warehouse that provided regular seasonal work for almost sixty years closed down less than a year ago. There are now at least three monstrous but derelict warehouses in open view that serve as reminders that the citrus industry that used to fuel Weirsdale is dead. And most of the others have been leased to various businesses unrelated to the citrus industry. Also, the “local school” is long gone, the building pictured is part of a successful entertainment complex known throughout central Florida as the Orange Blossom Opry, hosting live national acts most nights of the week.
