Limited Series?

[edit]

What The--?! did start out as a limited series of four issues. At the end of the four issue run, the inside back cover had a page illustrated/written by Fred Hembeck asking readers to mail Marvel to say how much the reader loved the comic and wanted to see more. Also, the "Bullish Bulletins" opposite that strongly indicated that issue 4 was the last issue of the limited series-but hinted of a possible return. Finally, the inside front cover of issue 4 said "Next issue: There ain't none!"

Issue 5 was released approximately eight months later, and the comic continued from there with an irregular schedule (although it did go bi-monthly for a time). If there are no objections, I'll update the entry with this information. Gjd001 16:09, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Updated entry indicating limited series status. Original entry read:

What The--?! is rumored to have begin with a with a four issue limited series. However, there is some mystery behind this claim. The publishing information of the 26 issue volume of What The?! is listed as being "Volume 1".The curious thing about this listing is unlike DC Comic's policy at the time, Marvel would consider limited run series as a volume in a comic titles franchise. For Example Issue #13 of What The--?! is listed as "Vol.1, No. 13". So if there was a 4 issue series of What The--?! predating the 26 issue series, issue #13 would be listed as "Vol. 2, No. 13". Thus until copies of the first volume can be found, the validity of a limited run 4 issue volume is lacking proof at this time.

Fair use rationale for Image:WhatTh26.jpg

[edit]

Image:WhatTh26.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Comparison?

[edit]

Is the a DC comics equivelant of "What The?!" ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.236.142 (talk) 03:54, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean "is there a DC.. title that does a similar parody job", then I think the answer is no. However, there's a one-shot issue entitled Sergio Destroys DC (which directly correspond to the Sergio Massacres Marvel and Sergio Stomps Star Wars one-shots taking on Marvel and the Dark Horse-held property). Then there is World's Funnest, an Elseworlds special taking humorous swipes at all manner of DC characters and parallel worlds.
Superman: True Brit was an overt (Elseworlds) parody, but because it was not Superman, it's not as good as it should have been; nor particularly comparable. Most of the Amalgam Comics were at least slightly, and many broadly satiric in nature (Howard the Duck in particular, in my opinion), but those were again one-shots; not wholly DC, etc.
None of those are really comparable to What The--?!, but may be marginally similar in intent.
Anyone else think of anything? ntnon (talk) 20:38, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
