I think seeing people doing is certainly enough of a citation--I think it's nuts and rip it down when I see it, but see it I do, even in Los Angeles. Unless they do it as a joke? I guess we need to corner one of these people and find out. But in Los Angeles it's being done by people who I don't think have that kind of sense of humor. The history might be that way though--maybe it started as a joke and gullible Jews started doing it. Then again weirder things have happened--look at St. Patrick.
