Removing the political identification

[edit]

The template is topped by an enormous (ten lines tall) official state symbol since 1993 of the Russian Federation. But the subject is the bibliography of 1,273 years of history, covering initial stateless period and Kyivan Rus, as well as a related section about other nations. The subject here is not the Russian Federation, and it includes multinational, and imperial history that covers literally scores of countries and national groups.

MOS:FLAG tells us flags, coats of arms, and other representations may be appropriate where the subject actually represents that country, but furthermore to avoid them in infoboxes. To represent this subject using the national symbol of one very new state is inappropriate (and offensive to some in light of its current war of aggression).

I’m removing the symbol. Perhaps something like a geographical map of historical territory of Russia might be an appropriate replacement. But maybe there’s no need for a picture to represent the bibliography.  —Michael Z. 02:49, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
