Spheroolithidae is an oofamily of fossil dinosaur eggs.
Description
[edit]Spheroolithids are usually medium to large in size. As their name suggests, they are usually roughly spherical, though they can be up to 30% longer than their width. They can often be difficult to classify, because egg shape can vary within a single clutch, and eggshell thickness can vary significantly in a single egg.[1]
History
[edit]The oofamily was first named by Zhao Zikui in 1979, at which time he included three oogenera in it: Spheroolithus, Paraspheroolithus, and Ovaloolithus.[2]
