Johnny Cardinale (born June 27, 1966) is an American stand-up comedian, singer, and songwriter.
Early life
[edit]Johnny Cardinale was born on June 27, 1966.[1] He taught himself how to play the guitar at the age of 15.[2] Cardinale graduated from Beaumont High School in Beaumont, California, in 1985, when he was voted the class clown. He then attended California State University, San Bernardino, where he studied mathematics, then changed his major to economics, then dropped out in 1990. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he held a job as a Universal Studios tour guide.[1]
Comedy career
[edit]In Los Angeles, Cardinale was one of thirteen members of a sketch comedy group called Incognito, where he found he could write comedic songs. Following the dissolution of the group, he chose to bring his songwriting to stand-up comedy clubs. He performed a three-minute audition for The Comedy Store, which led to him performing paid routines for the venue.[1] In 2006, Cardinale performed at The Improv in Hollywood, Los Angeles, where comedian Michael Richards also performed, falling and stepping on Cardinale's guitar. Afterward, Richards bought a new guitar for Cardinale.[2]
Cardinale has performed in all fifty U.S. states and at least forty countries.[3] He has performed for universities[4] and cruise lines, including Princess Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line.[5] Cardinale has gone on many tours to entertain members of the U.S. military stationed abroad, including in Japan, Korea, Africa, the Middle East, and Germany.[1][6][7]
In 2012, Cardinale started a recurring comedy show at The Sand Trap, a sports bar in Beaumont. He invites four comedians to perform every third Saturday and acts as the master of ceremonies, introducing the acts and telling jokes between the performances. The whole show takes about one hour, with each individual act lasting around ten minutes.[1]
