Sphinx Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a major public health problem in Egypt with infection rates between 10-20%. The origin of this epidemic has been attributed to mass campaigns of parenteral anti-schistosomiasis treatment in rural areas in the 1960s–70s. The Sphinx consortium has been conceived to tackle this urgent problem by identifying new genetic, molecular, and cellular determinants of disease progression. This will lead to new diagnostic tests and ultimately better treatments and preventative vaccines.
