AOL questions for RFAs

[edit]

Optional AOL questions from Hort Graz

  1. Detail your blocking plan when you are dealing with a persistent vandal who uses AOL. How long do you block? How often must he returen before you start to do longer blocks?
  2. Most autoblocking comes from blocking registered users who are using AOL. What will you do to check whether your blocks have caused large scale autoblocking?
  3. When would you do a range block of AOL addresses, and will you commit yourself to stay around during the block to help the innocent victims of the block?
  4. After you have blocked an inappropriate user name, will you check the Special:Ipblocklist to see if this block is creating massive collateral damage?
  5. Have you ever experienced being autoblocked because another user was blocked? Are you empathetic to those who may suffer this way, or do you not care?

  1. You are a soldier in Iraq, and you are under attack from heavy arms fire. Your attackers are in the vacinity of several innocent civilians. Is it better to shoot your attackers even though you may kill some innocent civilians, or should you refrain from shooting?

unused question

[edit]
  1. Is it better to let off nine guilty criminals than to incorrectly incarcerate one innocent person?
  2. If you block a range of AOL addresses, will you commit yourself to stay around during the block to help the innocent victims of the block?

RFA standards

If I can answer No to these two questions, you will get my support:

  1. Is this user likely to abuse admin powers?
  2. Is this user's use of admin powers likely to cause a negative impact on us?
The second question means that I can reject well meaning users that:
  1. are inexperienced
  2. have an understanding of policy that will disrupt us or hurt users (such as wantonly blocking AOL IP ranges)
  3. may act improperly under stressful situations
  4. have not been able to show that they will not cause harm as an admin due to inadequate responces to questions
