Keerati Chareancholvanich (Thai: กีรติ เจริญชลวานิช; born c. 1965) is a Thai orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee and hip replacement surgery. He is currently the President of the Royal College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of Thailand and a professor at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.[1][2]

Early Life and Education

Chareancholvanich was born in Thailand around 1965. He completed his medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in 1988, and obtained certification in orthopedic surgery from the Medical Council of Thailand in 1994.[3][4] He later earned a Diploma in Sports Medicine from the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) in 1995.[5] Chareancholvanich further specialized through fellowships in adult reconstructive surgery and hip surgery in the USA and Switzerland, respectively.[4][5]

Medical Career

Upon his return to Thailand, Chareancholvanich joined the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, where he has had an extensive career in orthopedic surgery, particularly in knee and hip replacements.[6]

Contributions to Orthopedic Surgery

Chareancholvanich has made significant contributions to knee and hip replacement surgery in Thailand. His research has focused on improving surgical techniques and patient outcomes. He has been involved in introducing robotic-assisted surgery for joint replacements and advancing less invasive procedures for knee arthroplasty.[6][7]

His clinical interests also extend to revision joint surgery, particularly for complex cases requiring secondary interventions after joint replacement surgeries.[5] His work has helped standardize joint replacement practices across Thailand, contributing to improvements in patient recovery and the longevity of implants, especially for the Asian population.[8]

Research and Publications

Chareancholvanich has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in international journals, including studies on knee kinematics and computer-assisted navigation in surgery. His notable publications include:

Philanthropy and Public Service

In 2016, Chareancholvanich founded the "New Joint for Life Foundation," which provides free joint replacement surgeries to underprivileged patients in remote areas of Thailand.[11] The foundation collaborates with other health organizations to promote public health initiatives and welfare services.

Chareancholvanich has received several awards and honors throughout his career, including:

  • Distinguished Service Award, Royal College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of Thailand (2020)[12]
  • Outstanding Medical Educator Award, Mahidol University (2018)[13]

These awards recognize his contributions to orthopedic surgery, medical education, and public service in Thailand.

Personal Life

Chareancholvanich is married and has three children. Outside of his medical career, he is known to be an avid runner and has participated in several marathons, including charity runs to raise funds for medical causes.[16]
