Amerivision Song Contest

The Amerivision Song Contest 1979 was the twenty-fourth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The edition was hosted in the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, in Montreal, Canada, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.

This edition is infamous for the withdrawal of four countries, the most notable of them being Brazil, that left the contest due to finantial complications with the host broadcaster Rede Tupi, that ended up shutting down the following year. Despite that, this edition saw the return of Argentina after a four year absence, this time with new broadcaster Canal Once, the return of Venezuela and the debut of the American Virgin Islands.
