The Amerivision Song Contest 1984 was the twenty-ninth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster Canal 1. The edition was hosted in Coliseo Iván de Bedout, in Medellín, Colombia, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.
The 1984 edition saw the debut of Guatemala, as well as the return of Peru after a six year absence, the spiteful return of Venezuela after Colombia's victory with a venezuelan artist, the expected withdrawal of Ecuador and the unexpected withdrawals of Bahamas and Paraguay, both countries that performed well in the previous edition. – Specially Paraguay, as it finished in third place. – Both countries withdrew due to budget reasons.
The winning song was "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" by Bruce Cockburn representing Canada, which gave the country its fifth win, making it the country at the time, that won the contest most times, breaking its tie with Brazil and Uruguay.
