Amerivision Song Contest

The Amerivision Song Contest 1987 was the thirty-second edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The edition was hosted in the Stampede Corral, in Calgary, Canada, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.

The 1987 edition was marked by a major controversy that led to it being the edition with the lowest number of participating nations since 1975, many nations were unsatisfied with the constant repeated winners and accused the juries of benefiting specific countries, particularly Canada and Brazil. This led to a boycott of the contest led by Argentina and Jamaica, that was supported by the American Virgin Islands, Barbados, El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Martinique, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. This led to the ABU making changes in the jury system for future editions.
