Amerivision Song Contest

The Amerivision Song Contest 1988 was the thirty-third edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster El Canal de las Estrellas. The edition was hosted in the Auditorio Nacional, in Mexico City, Mexico, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.

After the boycotts of the 1987 edition, the ABU made changes in the Jury system, diversifying its members, with the attempt of removing biases and avoiding the same few countries to win every times. This, combined with the mexican victory of last year, that even though Mexico had already won before, they weren't considered one of the biased countries, led to most of the boycotting countries to return to the contest, including the two leaders of it, Argentina and Jamaica. Despite that, the Dominican Republic, Netherlands Antilles and Suriname all withdrew from the contest.

This edition also saw the debut of Antigua and Barbuda in the contest, as well as Bahamas becoming the first first-time winner since the 1974 contest, getting the title with "Just Got Paid" by Johnny Kemp.
