Pointless, neglected unreferenced list of redlinks --Altenmann >talk 15:52, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Comment. In theory this could be a successful list. There are plenty of sources in google books to compile such a list, and properly source it. In other words, it is rescuable if someone feels like rescuing this list. It also wouldn't be a tragedy to let this one go until someone want to recreate it and work on it.4meter4 (talk) 16:05, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Delete. First off, "social dance" is a very vague term. Second, there's nothing here that one or more categories can't do just as well, provided there are any notable ballroom dance albums. See Category:Albums by genre. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:25, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Should be redirected to Book (album), as its only coverage is within the context of the album. The sources on the article do not establish significant independent notability for this song. Its main claim (before my removal of it) was going to number one on some chart called the "SubModern Tracks", which is published on a non-descript website but has no clear methodology or claim to significance, so would appear to be a candidate for WP:BADCHARTS. The sources are: a link to a podcast episode about the album; an interview with a band member about the album; a PopMatters review for the album; a They Might Be Giants wiki page (obviously failing WP:USERG), and one blog-news article on a site called Soundsphere that moreso focuses on the album. Cigarettes and Valentines (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

To start things off, I want to make it clear this nomination is not about notability. I have zero doubts that Cigarettes and Valentines might meet the general notability guidelines, which would be hard to establish since most of the sourcing is interviews anyways, but I digress. Rather, my concern is the significant overlap between this and American Idiot. Because at the end of the day, that is what Cigarettes and Valentines boils down to, a failed project that came before American Idiot, and all sources available reflect this (including the ones I searched for prior to this). The project is only discussed within the context of American Idiot's production. There's not really anything worth discussing about Cigarettes and Valentines that isn't (or at least, can be) discussed in the covered in the American Idiot article. There's also a problem related to how we do not know, nor may we ever know, what Cigarettes and Valentine's was going to be, or what it had. Based on that, I think that even if all statements in this article were cited to reliable sources (which, at present, they are not), it runs the risk of coming off as spreading rumors, or in others terms original research or sourcing synth. Because of these reasons, I believe that Cigarettes and Valentines fails NOPAGE, and should be redirected to the American Idiot article.

As for the song, I highly doubt that it is independently notable from Awesome as Fuck based on the present sourcing, as it only discusses this one specific performance of the song, and nothing beyond that. And combining this album and this song into one article to try and make something worthwhile comes off as a coatrack. λ NegativeMP1 21:39, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Weak Keep - I am usually not a fan of articles on albums that were never released, which tend to be full of obsessive fan trivia. However, this album is different because it was nearly complete and had even been announced as coming soon before the master tapes were stolen. Also, Cigarettes and Valentines is not simply an early version of American Idiot because only one full song and a few titles made the transition. So this unreleased album has its own history and identity as a stand-alone item. I'm at "Weak Keep" because everything could possibly be described as a historical episode in the band's article, but there is probably enough coverage to support an album article too. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:13, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

Hard to search for sources as I am not a native speaker and the word means “song”. Seems unlikely to be notable but instead of deleting could perhaps be merged? Chidgk1 (talk) 17:28, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

If sources are located discussing the specific song form, then a merge could be sensible. As is, however, I think either a redirect to fasıl or the definition on Wiktionary (via {{wiktred}}) would make the most sense. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 20:05, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep: Although it is a stub, the article is about a specific musical form, which is notable on its own. [1] A potential merge would be an editorial dicussion, not an AfD discussion.

Per WP:SPLIT and WP:NCOVER, which has been misinterpreted persistently. The statement reads: "Notable covers are eligible for standalone articles, provided that the article on the cover can be reasonably detailed based on facts independent of the original."

The article is not "reasonably detailed" to claim a split from Africa (Toto song). In fact, if you visit Africa (Toto song)#Weezer cover, you'll read the same content written at Africa (Weezer cover)#Release. Then we have a music video and chart sections. Nothing here indicates content that cannot be on the main page. NCOVER was specifically created for articles like The Star-Spangled Banner and The Star Spangled Banner (Whitney Houston recording). The Houston cover is independent of the US anthem because it has multiple facts about its performance, including being a charity single. We don't split covers merely because they were released and become more or less notable than the original version, including but not limited to Don't Cha (The Pussycat Dolls song), I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston song), Fever (Beyoncé Knowles song), or American Pie (Madonna song), among thousands of examples. (CC) Tbhotch 16:22, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Merge: there is more information in the standalone article than is currently included in the original section, namely about the music video and charting, but all of that could be included in the original and it wouldn't take up so much space as to cause any issues. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 16:40, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
Yes, especially if someone rewrote and streamlined the prose a bit, which is pretty rough right now. Sergecross73 msg me 17:20, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Merge to Africa (Toto song), and some protection may be necessary to prevent a reversal by those who have interpreted the policies incorrectly. Yes, there is some minor encyclopedic info on this Weezer version, but the nominator is correct on why it should not have its own article. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:01, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Keep: I feel this is being held to a higher standard just because this is a cover. Probably due to the old guideline that was around for many years that covers don't get their own articles. Well, times have changed. In fact, in the cited guideline, it pretty much tells us to do the same thing we do for WP:NSONGS. Nothing indicates to hold a higher standard. If this was an original song, no one would even think of putting this in AFD. Keep in mind that Weezer's version of "Africa" was a big hit in its own right. It's not "just another cover" as being suggested. MoonJet (talk) 01:05, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
It's not so much a "higher standard" as much as its just an "obvious merge target" due to the points of WP:MERGEREASON (overlap in content, short song articles, etc.) And the music Wikiprojects constantly discuss the handling of cover songs, so its not like its obscure outdated guidance or something. Sergecross73 msg me 23:27, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Merge - There is no reason this can't or shouldn't be covered within the Africa (Toto song) article. Rlendog (talk) 18:33, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Monstrously huge and growing unmaintainable fancruft list where most of the tracks do not pass WP:NMUSIC. This is a piece for Schott's Miscellany. Still fails WP:NLIST. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 10:26, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

  • keep the article clearly passes NLIST. This is neither WP:FANCRUFT, nor some indiscriminate collection of information, as the information in list is factual list of songs that were recorded. Asha Bhosale has been included in the Guinness book of world records for that source. As someone mentioned in the previous AFD not having this list will be stupid. If you folks personally can't handle it, then post about it on relevant wikiprojects, and stop working on the article. When the article "list of missing persons" got big, it was not deleted, it was split in decades — something which had been suggested to you already. Kindly stop nominating same notable article again-and-again. —usernamekiran (talk) 07:57, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

After checking google I am unable to find proper citations, other than album and CD listing sites, so in my opinion this one does not meet the notability guidelines. Drushrush (talk) 20:47, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

  • Redirect to Afro Celt Sound System. This band has a long history and some other albums that achieved notability, but this one seems to have been ignored by the music media when released. The AllMusic review already cited is a reliable source and helps a bit, but doesn't often much fodder for analysis. Today the album is only visible in typical retail and streaming sites. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:01, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

I could not find significant coverage of this single in reliable sources. Fenix Funeral Directors is a website for a funeral home, and the source is titled "Top 10 Runrig Songs For a Funeral". This article can be redirected to Runrig discography, where its chart information is recorded. voorts (talk/contributions) 22:39, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Comment I would like to point out the recently added subsection regarding coverage of high profile controversy around the charting position of "Skye", which would indicate a degree of notability. Goodreg3 (talk) 20:27, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
The two Music Week articles are primary sources, so they don't establish notability. voorts (talk/contributions) 21:19, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
What more do you seriously want? I have provided information on what was clearly a significant event at the time. On one hand, you point out "self published sources" as not being enough, and on the other, you are equally unhappy with published magazines. What is it you are exactly looking for? Goodreg3 (talk) 21:43, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
Generally, significant coverage of a song is something like a review, an analysis of its themes or structure, or a discussion of its role in popular culture. I listed some sources that I would consider significant on the talk page for An Ubhal as Àirde (The Highest Apple), which I did find to be a notable single by Runrig. voorts (talk/contributions) 22:02, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I tried and failed (at a level approaching WP:BEFORE) to find an independent description of this supposed controversy. Finally was able to load the Music Week (some kind of geoblock I think). I agree the 19 January 1985 article certainly seems like significant coverage. The 26-1-85 issue is just recapping the 19-1 story and saying bad weather was delaying the investigation.
Voorts why is this primary? Music Week doesn't mention being part of Gallup. I can't imagine it is/was based on the tone and third-person references in the articles, but maybe you have reasons. Oblivy (talk) 02:57, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
Per WP:PRIMARYNEWS, reporting on an evolving investigation makes it a primary source. voorts (talk/contributions) 03:54, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for alerting me to that essay. There seems to be a disconnect between a reporter writing as an eyewitness (see "investigative reports" and footnote a of the essay) and a reporter relying on primary sources generated elsewhere to write an article. I see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure you're right this article fits the situation described in the essay let alone policy. I'm not seeing a second significant source in the article-for-deletion, so it may not matter. Oblivy (talk) 04:18, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
I was referring more to the breaking news example, as well as the portion above the examples, which discusses how writing about an event immediately after it occurs is based on the writers' interpretation of events and is thus a primary source. See, for example, this quote: ""Characteristically, primary sources are contemporary to the events and people described ..." voorts (talk/contributions) 05:12, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
