[edit]
Slavery

Summary

[edit]

Slavery: To own person without paying them[1]. Slavery was common in the United States since the Civil War up till now. A slave is like a property you can sell or own one. Slavery was also present since the Roman Empire. A slave is provided with a shelter, food, and clothing by their master or mistress. Who ever possess a person it is means that person is to be known as a slave. Slave weren't granted all their freedom and their right until the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln to free slaves in the south.

Condition of slavery

[edit]

Slavery was not a good condition to live in. As a slave you are either work on a Cotton plantation picking up cottons or helping in the house/kitchen. Slave were not treated well. They had to obey to their masters. If they did not obey they will get whipped with a whip, not fed for mouth, shackling, hanging, beating, burning, mutilation, branding, and imprisonment. Some slave that could not take the condition they lived in either runaway or get killed. In the begging of the movie The Butler a man did not obey his master's commanded and he got shot right in front of his own son.

Slave trade

[edit]

Slave trade started when Americans went to Europe and saw that the Europeans had servant from different race and color which helped them with the chores in the house. Europeans saw slave as servant to help them but Americans so slave as properties. Americans started trading with the Europeans for slave so they (Americans) could also have servant. The Europeans went to Africa get the slaves and then sell them to Americans. The Europeans did not know the mistake they've made for selling the slaves to Americans. Some where separated from their parent other form their husband or their wives. This is how the Transatlantic slave trade started or some other call it the Triangular Trade.[2]

Northerners

[edit]

The northerners were against slavery and very thing that came with it. They thought it was inhuman the way the southerners treated their slaves. The northerners thought that slavery was like Kidnapping, taking some from their family for labor for life. The north wanted to abolish slavery or either ship the slaves back to Africa. Northerners saw slaves as people with feelings not a property. Whereas the Southerners saw them as object to exploit with hard work. Northerners were looking for ways to help free the blacks the major one was the Abolitionist movement.

Southerners

[edit]

The southerners were for slavery. They had no shame to even sell a year old baby for one hundred dollars and frothy cent.[3]. The south were known for the way they treated the slaves. For them slaves were dogs that did not need attention. The slave just had to obey to what they were told to do. The slaves living in the south were suffering in the hands of the white man. This action led to Racial segregation in the United States and also created a new extremist group called the KKK which led to Lynching people in public. The southerns used their slave to grow cotton so the entire United States get cotton for their clothes.

Abolitionist Movement

[edit]

The abolitionist movement started during Andrew Jackson administration. Slaves wanted their freedom so they could move freely in the United States. Slaves used Underground Railroads to runaway from the South and move to the North. Women stared to write petition to abolish slavery in the Columbia district.[4]. A famous leader who was also a former slave Frederick Douglas fought to free black people in the south.[5]. When Abraham Lincoln came to power he signed the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the blacks from both north and south. After signing the Emancipation Proclamation black people joined the northern army to fight. Abolitionism
