Maghreb

[edit]

What makes you think that there was no such a thing as Maghreb in the 16th century? M.Bitton (talk) 20:12, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't a country, it was a part of Ottoman Empire. And the dish was invented during the Ottoman reign, so the country of its origin is Ottoman Empire. What is the origin of Pepsi? United States. And no matter what state it was invented in. You don't see it says the country of its origin is North Carolina, because it's not a country, it's just a part of USA. The same with pizza. What is the origin of pizza? Italy. People tell the origin of something by the country it was invented in. Maghreb of 16th isn't a country, it's just a part of Ottoman Empire. So when it comes to Shakshuka it's not an exception. The country of its origin would be in fact Ottoman Empire, not Maghreb. That's how it works. Максимумфактов (talk) 21:31, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It clearly says "region". I suggest you read the template's documentation. M.Bitton (talk) 21:51, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And you can see it says "country" as well. The country is more foreground than the region. On many pages about cuisine the priority of a dish's origin usually lies on its county, not on a region/province. Why wouldn't you try to do the same with Pepsi by changing its template's documentation and writing it was invented in North Carolina? Because you know they won't let you do that. Максимумфактов (talk) 22:13, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it says "region or state" and the claim that country is better than region is baseless in this case, especially given the fact that the Maghreb had different states at that time. I don't see what Pepsi has to do with this, but you are free to seek consensus for your change. M.Bitton (talk) 22:23, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Pepsi is just an example how people tell food's origin. Usually, people tell it by its country, not by its province/region. At least, there should be added the place of origin section, so it could mention Ottoman Empire, because it says the dish was invented during the Ottoman times.
How about this:
  1. The place of origin: Ottoman Empire
  2. The country or region: Maghreb
Do you support this suggestion? Максимумфактов (talk) 22:55, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Pepsi is a bad example as it clearly originates from a specific country. In our example, the specific part is the Maghreb (the time is not important), therefore, I don't see why we should either hide it or dissolve it in some irrelevant entity. Like I said, you are welcome to seek consensus for your change on the article's talk page. M.Bitton (talk) 23:06, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But the page clearly says Shakshuka also was originated in specific country — Ottoman Empire. A quote from the page: "According to Joan Nathan, shakshouka originated in Ottoman North Africa in the mid-16th century after tomatoes were introduced to the region by Hernan Cortés as part of the Columbian exchange.". So it literally says it was originated in the Ottoman North Africa, which used to belong to Ottoman Empire. Are you denying it? Максимумфактов (talk) 23:30, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Shakshouka. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection.
