That utter fraud Richard Hoagland does IN FACT solicit money on 'Coast to Coast AM'. I have no desire to get into a revert war--you can verify this fact either by listening every night for about six months (not recommended for your sanity) or by writing to the producer:

Lisa Lyon
Producer, "Coast to Coast AM"
Premiere Radio Network
15260 Ventura Blvd.
SHERMAN OAKS, CA 91403

The fact that the producers permit unaudited soliciting is, of course, a gross abuse of the public airwaves, and possibly illegal. All the more reason to expose the practice.

El Ingles 16:51, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stu, I've been listening to Hoagland on the Art Bell Show/Coast to Coast AM for some ten years and still have a few marbles left. I think that mentioning his solicitation of donations for The Enterprise Mission from listeners of a late-night radio program, and also his promotions of his book, videos and speaking engagements, to be irrelevant and unworthy of an encyclopedia article.

Alan G. Archer 23:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not. It greatly speaks of his motivations. Other editors such as the above one are in agreement with me, and I hear only you on your own side. Please do not change the article again until we've discussed it in the talk page, and beyond that I may seek further action. -- Consumed Crustacean | Talk | 23:59, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your recent work on Hoagland. El Ingles (talk) 21:35, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. Something possessed me to give the Hoagland article a belated spring cleaning. I think I'm about a third of the way to completion. It also needs a good restructuring -- too much stuff in the "Background" section. Alan G. Archer (talk) 22:14, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ref. 127 (Grossinger) alleges that Hoagland wrote most of 'Monuments of Mars' from a prison cell in California. It'd be a nice addition to the article, but my instinct tells me that we'd need a second source for something that controversial. El Ingles (talk) 15:27, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, indeed. Verified public court records would be needed. Alan G. Archer (talk) 06:51, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit

[edit]

Could you provide a source for this edit? I've rolled it back until it is, as UNESCO says it is over two million years. EricLeb01 (Page | Talk) 21:31, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. The original article author did not realise that the number was 2,023 and not 2.023. Thanks. EricLeb01 (Page | Talk) 21:36, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, Eric. If that big old rock had hit South Africa only 2 million years ago, you, I, and Wikipedia would probably not be here today.

Vredefort Dome is also described in Wikipedia's "List of World Heritage Sites in Africa" article as having a diameter of 190 km. That figure may be a misreading of reference #126, the UNESCO Web page at http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1162. The UNESCO page states a crater radius of 190 km. That would be a diameter of 380 km, which is somewhat larger than most references state for the original diameter of the crater. Alan G. Archer (talk) 23:08, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Accutron science

[edit]

In my opinion, the time has come to add a section to Richard C. Hoagland about his "measurement" of torsion fields around ancient monuments, using an old Accutron watch and a Mumford precision timer. I don't, however, see any possibility of a citation that is not RCH's own. Do you think that rules out the idea? El Ingles (talk) 21:23, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I went with it. See what you think. El Ingles (talk) 00:04, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for adding the HISM to the List of cryptids, and for thus alerting me to the article about the HISM, which contains this paragraph: "A legend tells of a train wreck in the area in the early 20th century. Nice Clean-up on Ralph René

[edit]

Thank you so much for taking the time to edit that article. I am a Rational Skeptic but an Anthropologist and these guys fascinate me. I don't hate them, disrespect them nor despise them and so when I originally worked hard to make his article more than just a "ha ha, what an idiot" article, I was often reverted and accused of being a nutcase. I believe that documenting the beliefs of people who may be far out there but who have had a significant impact on popular culture is worth doing right with quotes, citations and some basic compassion for their fervor. I understand that men like Ralph René got under the skin of actual rocket scientists and NASA experts, having a couple of those folks in my immediate family. Still, since we are in a post-millenial phase of TV where even the History channel and other "Science" channels are bombarding viewers with shows about "how Squatchy it feels tonight" and worse, we need to keep these articles factual, fair and NPOV. Thanks for your help in re-oganizing things to read more clearly. Great job. As one of the original writers of the article, I salute you! LiPollis (talk) 12:03, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I do what I can with the time I have. I work rather osmotically on articles, often making small changes over time until they look shipshape to me. I have edited 'Ralph René' again, adding a bibliography section and started editing the references in detail. Alan G. Archer (talk) 09:25, 13 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your Comprehensive cleanup on Evolutionary history of life

[edit]

Hi! I've noticed you've been conducting a series of edits on Evolutionary history of life. Since your edit summaries only read "Continuing comprehensive clean-up", your particular contributions are not easily identified. From comparing diffs, it appears you are mainly reformatting citations themselves, not the actual text. If this is true, that's fine! However, some additions may be extraneous or less helpful to include, and your time might be better spent not making such changes: 1)access dates for journal articles, online or in print are not needed, since publication date is final and the contents will not change 2) ISSN numbers are for the journals themselves, not for individual articles, cited, so it seems a bit overkill to include such links, e.g. ISSN=1471-2148 for BMC Evolutionary Biology (in this case the periodical info is especially extraneous since all BMC journals are online, open access). I've noticed you also include publisher/society info for journals, which seems a bit like citing a book, then giving directions to a bookstore that sells it. In conclusion, your additions are not incorrect or misleading, but may not necessarily provide any additional aid in obtaining or verifying the references. Cheers! --Animalparty-- (talk) 20:56, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Animalparty. I like working in reverse: edit references first, then edit the text, paying particular attention to verbatim quotations. Reference editing can be a long and tedious process on large articles, but I believe the end results are worth the effort. Direct URL's to journal articles sometimes change, so when I see a redirect or link rot I update URL and the access date (and sometimes remove the direct URL when DOI's, etc., achieve the same result). ISSN 1471-2148 is found twice on Evolutionary history of life. An editor generated reference #149 by using the 'cite DOI' template, which I did not edit. Again, thanks. Alan G. The terms 'extradition' and 'extradited' was commonly used by the media, perhaps inaccurately. The motion filed by U.S. Attorney Billy J. External academic review and publication of Wikipedia pages

[edit]

Hi Alan, This is a note to ask: would you be interested in submitting any articles for external, academic peer review to improve their accuracy and generate a citable publication?

The WikiJournal of Science (www.wikijsci.org) aims to couple the rigour of academic peer review with the extreme reach of the encyclopedia. For existing Wikipedia articles, it's a great way to get additional feedback from external experts. Peer-reviewed articles are dual-published both as standard academic PDFs, as well as having changes integrated back into Wikipedia. This improves the scientific accuracy of the encyclopedia, and rewards authors with citable, indexed publications. It also provides much greater reach than is normally achieved through traditional scholarly publishing.

The WP:WikiJournal article nominations page should allow simple submission of existing Wikipedia pages for external review. T.Shafee(Evo&Evo)talk 04:35, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
