Proposed deletion of Latinas and World War II

Your article and project

Hi, I see you're working on a project and this has been the subject of some debate. I'm not sure what support or interaction you've had with other editors, but I can offer you some support if you need it. Whilst wikipedia does welcome and encourage editors, including new and young editors, certain guidelines cannot be suspended and I'd like to help you understand those guidelines and work within them. The main ones are it has to be objective (maintain a neutral tone) and be verifiable and be notable. The notability issue is being debated as you know, leaving the others to address. Verifiable means it has to come from a trusted source. You seem to have used books and journals which are good, however you've not actually related your sources to the text. For example if I was to say 3,000 Latina women served in the US Navy and I got my information from book X, I'd have to reference that statement there, not just add the reference to a list at the end of the article. Your article has 6 references but only one relates to any of the text, and there are formatting issues with that. In striving for a neutral tone, certain subjective terms should be avoided. Your opening statement 'Latina Women have contributed much to American society, but their efforts are oftentimes overlooked.' has several issues. Firstly it's not referenced. Secondly it has unquantifiable statements like much and oftentimes. Finally, it doesn't open the article well. Taking the whole lede (opening section) in context, it feels like a soapbox rant by a member of that community. It's not neutral at all, it's not referenced, and it doesn't summarise the article at all. I appreciate it's also a work-in-progress, but as it's a live article, it's not appropriate to populate the article with many blank sections with the intention of padding them out later. You can use draft areas away from the main article to collate your work and prepare formatting etc, but really it should not go into the finished article until it is the finished article. I briefly looked through existing articles related to your project and found this - a great example of an article you can strive towards: Hispanic Americans in World War II. It's a featured article which means it's been recognised for its quality, so is an excellent reference point, and whilst the article is 8 years old and has received contributions from a number of editors, the bulk of the content was created in its early days but a small number of editors who collaborated well and produced a quite brilliant piece - so it really is possible to create something of high quality and there are a number of people and articles here to help you achieve that! There is another problem. Only one person may contribute under one user name, If several members of a group or class are contributing, they must use different user names. Reference tags

Can you stop removing the tags about referencing? The references are not presented in the correct manner, hence the tags. You cannot remove them without explanation or a fix. See Help:Referencing for beginners and Wikipedia:Citing sources and Template:Cite book. Tags being put back on until resolved. Rayman60 (talk) 16:19, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
