About Vincenzo Ferrera and Dado Coletti ...Buongiorno e salute!

Good morning and welcome back. Great, I tried to expand it a little bit. regarding "your personal article", i see how i can do that. Maybe even in my two dialects, Sicilian and Neapolitan. As I said, I tried to expand Vincenzo, I hope I haven't done "irreparable damage". For the rest, waiting to hear from you I wish you a happy day. Walter Scott

Extended content

Hi, I'm not familiar with talk page archiving, but it seems like the entire RM at Talk:Killing of Walter Scott has gone missing. [1] The archives are also under the heading Talk:Murder of Walter Scott, which does not match the article's title. Would appreciate your help in sorting this out, thank you! 162 etc. (talk) 17:38, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

@162 etc. Hmm, I'm not exactly sure how to help here. @SmokeyJoe: I see you've been involved with a page move here, any chance you could take a look, or know of an admin who could help? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:58, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
I've reverted the archiving, which has restored the threads on the main talk page. I still don't know what happened, though. 162 etc. (talk) 20:33, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
@162 etc. Thanks for the update. @Valereee: I also see you've moved the page before. Any chance you can help here? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
Oh I get it... the material was archived to Talk:Killing of Walter Scott/Archive 4, but because that page included a #REDIRECT to Talk:Murder of Walter Scott/Archive 4, we don't see it when clicking the link. The pagemove was the culprit. I think I've got everything sorted out now, but perhaps other involved editors can have a look to make sure no talk page material has been deleted or is otherwise inaccessible. 162 etc. (talk) 20:45, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
I think there was discussion. Valereee (talk) 21:57, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Did 162 fix it? I wonder whether manual one clickarchiving is part of the problem. I think it shouldn't be used, but that autoarchiving should be set up properly, for slow archiving to large archives. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:56, 1 March 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter

Extended content

So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
  • New York (state) Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
  • Germany FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
  • United States TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
  • Byzantine Empire Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.

The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included Berkelland LunaEatsTuna, Thebiguglyalien, Sammi Brie, New England Trainsandotherthings, England Lee Vilenski, Indonesia Juxlos, Unexpectedlydian, Washington (state) SounderBruce, Wales Kosack, BennyOnTheLoose and Chicago PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Thank you for your precious and very welcome help, a small favor also for Liliana Mele

Good evening from Calabria dear Jason, I am writing to thank you for your great, precious and very welcome help. In these days, as soon as I free myself from some commitments, I dedicate myself to drafting your personal page on Wikipedia in the Italian languages, from Trieste to Palermo, in my small and in my known. Anyway, I'm asking you for a little help for Liliana Mele's page, another Mare Fuori actress, who's doing well here! That's right and no more than 10 minutes of your precious time. Thank you again for your kindness, availability and amiability. I kindly await your news, thank you, greetings and esteem. Luigi Salvatore Vadacchino (talk) 20:12, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Archiving

Extended content

Hi @Another Believer! I have seen you archiving the sources, and I tried to do but I lowkey failed at doing that. So my question is, can you archive the sources that are used in this article? Portals (Melanie Martinez album). Thank you. — JuanGLP (talk + contribs) 18:48, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

@JuanGLP: Better yet, let me show you how! Click on 'View history' to get here. Then, click on 'Fix dead links' to get here. Then, check the box "Add archives to all non-dead references (Optional)" and click on Analyze. Sometimes the process is slow, other times quite fast. Good luck and let me know if you have any issues! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:56, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
OMG! Thank you so much! 🙏 — JuanGLP (talk + contribs) 19:35, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
@JuanGLP: Of course! Now you can repeat this over and over and over :) ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:37, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! Also one litte question: if I add another source onto the article, do I repeat the process? — JuanGLP (talk + contribs) 19:39, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
@JuanGLP: Yes, the bot will skip over sources which have already been archived and just archive the new one(s). ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:44, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
Okay, thank you very much. :) — JuanGLP (talk + contribs) 19:51, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
@JuanGLP Just one thing to keep in mind: You should make sure the citations are at least formatted correctly before archiving. Meaning, don't try to archive bare URLs. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:56, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Polish translation

Extended content

Dear Friend.

Thank you for your message. I think I might translate the piece into Polish - it seems short enough - but cannot promise any date. Let's say I have a lot of personal projects so... you know?

If I will translate the article about you into Polish, I might inform you... unless I will forget, which is still a possibility.

Sorry if that seems convoluted or something, I am generally a weird person I think? (xD)

Best wishes

-- Kaworu1992 (talk) 19:10, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

@Kaworu1992 Hey, thanks! No worries, there are a million more important things to do on Wikipedia. Thanks again and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:11, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Hm... a few questions:
1. Should Oregon Symphony get translated into Polish? Or is it a proper noun and no? I kinda... cannot decide myself.
2. What exactly is a digital strategist? I translated it literally but it's hard to tell whether it is appropriate or not. Could you elaborate some, please?
I have the very general outline of the article, but without pictures, links or refs. Nothing too problematic, will work on it further. Actually it's now nighttime in Poland, might need to do that tomorrow? ;-)
Best wishes!
-- Kaworu1992 (talk) 19:39, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
@Kaworu1992 Oregon Symphony is a proper noun. Yes, "digital strategist" is vague and could mean many different things. If helpful, I think the article closest to what is meant would be Digital marketing. Perhaps if you're not sure about how to translate, you can just leave "digital strategist" in quotes, keep in English like at tl:Jason Moore, or use en links like at da:Jason Moore? I'm not really sure what's best. Thanks for your work on this, get some sleep! :) ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:47, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Thank you.
The only thing left is refs and categories. About refs, I will work on that tomorrow. About categories, I will just ask other Polish Wikipedians.
Best wishes
-- Kaworu1992 (talk) 20:12, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
@Kaworu1992 Thanks again! Looking forward to seeing the entry once finished! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:13, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Okay, I started working on refs, but seriously, will probably NOT finish today xD Tomorrow, I swear ;-)
Best wishes
--Kaworu1992 (talk) 20:41, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
Hi ;-)
Just a lil update. I need to add just refs for one paragraph and then I am done :D
But, some red links (edit-a-thon, Wikipedia movement, Wikiproject) seem suspicious to me, so I think I will ask other Wikipedians for their input :-P Plus I do not know how to link to user page on another Wikipedia, I will also need them to tell me so xD
Best wishes! ;-)
--Kaworu1992 (talk) 10:48, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Okay, I think I am done. There are some issues with the article (WIkicode, you know?) but there are secondary if not thertiary. After other Wikipedians will have a look and propose categories, I will post it on Main WIkipedia in Polish ;-) Stay tuned! ;-)
-- 11:38, 23 March 2023 (UTC) Kaworu1992 (talk) 11:38, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Eh... the first response on Wikipedia forum was like "I doubt it is encyclopedic enough" or something...? : <
Also, I hope I am not spamming you? ;-) Sorry if I am? ;-) I am kinda... excited right now? xD
Best wishes! :3
-- Kaworu1992 (talk) 11:46, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Hi!
Two different Polish Wikipedians suggest that the article is not encyclopedic enough : < It probably will not get published on Polish Wikipedia and will remain forever in my Wikispace?
Sorry : <
-- Kaworu1992 (talk) 12:14, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
@Kaworu1992: Oh! Isn't it funny how a subject can be promoted to GA at one Wikipedia project, but potentially deemed non-encyclopedic at another? Well, I certainly don't want to push the envelope. I very much appreciate your time and assistance. If you're comfortable moving the draft into main space or submitting for others to review, that's great, otherwise I totally understand if you prefer not to do any additional work here. Again, thanks for trying! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:12, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Hi ;-)
You are basically asking if there is a subpage on PL Wikipedia with proposals for "articles to creation" and if an article about you could be brought there? Hm... I still believe that other WIkipedians would call it "nonencyclopedic" even thought there is probably something like that?
Very sorry to disappoint you, I also wanted to publish the translation :'( Boooo :'(
Best wishes.

Copy-edit requests

Resolved
Extended content

Hi Another Believer, I have concerns about the work of The person who loves reading (see above) and I've opened a discussion at REQ talk, where you're welcome to participate. I've put your two latest requests on hold, though this doesn't mean you've done anything wrong here. Judging by the above (yikes!), and considering many of these are for GA noms, this may be worse than I thought. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 05:47, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

@Baffle gab1978 Thanks for the heads up. I'm happy for GOCE to revisit these, or not if that complicates things. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:10, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Someone will check through and complete the copy-edits using the list at the discussion linked above; I think I've got them all listed there... we'll keep your un-addressed requests on hold until the rest are completed. The editor responsible has promised to refrain from working on requests until they've gained more copy-editing experience. I'm sorry this business landed on your doorstep. () Hi again AB, I've now finished copy-editing Arleta Library Bakery & Cafe, which is your last excess request. Accordingly, I've un-collapsed and removed the on hold notices on your remaining two requests; back to normal! If this kind of spree happens again, please let us know at REQ Talk or on one of the coordinators' talk pages. Thanks for your patience and understanding. Your GA nomination of Cathy Whims

The article Cathy Whims you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Cathy Whims for comments about the article, and Talk:Cathy Whims/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Railway hotels

I like your work on hotels in Oregon. I have one suggestion: If a hotel was once owned by a railway company or was located in or next to a railway station, that would be worth mentioning. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 16:33, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

@Eastmain Thanks for your kind words and for the suggestion! I'll keep this in mind, and of course I very much welcome article improvements or specific suggestions on article talk pages when you have any. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:52, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

---Another Believer (Talk) 00:43, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

@LibStar: I've asked you to slow down with your deletion nominations because I cannot possibly be expected to defend all of these at once. It feels like you are specifically targeting me, or at least articles I've written. Please consider leaving article talk page comments, or at least tags, before jumping to AfD. Thank you. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:45, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

I'm not targeting you. I look out for articles of questionable notability, I tagged some for notability that require further sourcing, and did not nominate all of them for deletion, which I could have easily done. LibStar (talk) 00:51, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
@LibStar Knowing I feel targeted, I hope you'll pay additional attention to which articles you're nominating for deletion. It takes only a few seconds to nominate a page for deletion, but much more time and energy to defend and flesh out an entry under the limited time and pressure of AfD. Thanks, ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:20, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Please note you do not WP:OWN these articles. LibStar (talk) 01:34, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
@LibStar I don't think I do. This isn't about ownership. This is about giving a fellow editor time to improve entries outside the pressures of AfD. I think you can see I'm making a genuine attempt to expand these articles significantly. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:45, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Another Believer, no one expects you to "defend all of these at once". Please sit back and do nothing. AfD is our community method of determining if the entry should be retained or not. If the community decides not, that's ok. You can copy the coding of each article as it is now into a text document and learn from the discussion what more is needed; nothing is lost. Those articles which are kept won't likely be nominated again. I totally understand the feeling any editor would reasonably have toward the work they put into an entry, but we give away our work when we press the button to "publish changes." Rather than suspect LibStar of malice, consider the frustration well-meaning patrollers and the like experience when they find article which seem to lack notability. AfD is not a personal attack on you, as I think good editors can disagree where the line for GNG lies. I hope it works out for you. Chris Troutman (talk) 01:48, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Well said @Chris troutman. LibStar (talk) 02:41, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for withdrawing the AC Hotel Portland Downtown and Hotel Rose nominations. However, this suggests you're not completing thorough source reviews before nominating, and using AfD as a way to expand entries. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:25, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
"well-meaning patroller"? Sorry, but tagging 20 articles by the same editor is not "well-meaning patrolling". ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:50, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
I could have easily nominated all for deletion, but I didn't. LibStar (talk) 01:17, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

wider discussion

Hey, AB! You said here that you'd asked for wider discussion -- where is that? Because I do think we need it, too. Valereee (talk) 11:11, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

@Valereee I've been asking for one, but I don't think a wider discussion has been started. I don't really know how to where to have this discussion, if you have any thoughts or want to get the ball rolling somewhere. ---Another Believer (Talk) 13:44, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
Maybe at WT:NCORP? Or at WP:VPP?
I'm not sure how to get at it, either. My feeling is that a paper like The Oregonian, which is a statewide newspaper, needs careful consideration. If it is truly covering the various large cities in Oregon equally, then we need coverage in media in another town. For a Portland restaurant, something in Eugene media, for instance. I !voted keep for a Gainesville restaurant that had coverage from the Orlando Sentinel and the Tallahassee Democrat because those two cities are a two-hour drive away from Gainesville and in opposite directions, and that's what we're looking for: coverage that is telling people, "Hey, this is worth a drive or at least a stop." Rather than simply saying, "And here's where I ate this week." Which is what a typical local dining review is doing. And if The Oregonian is covering everyone in Oregon equally, then we have to consider Oregon "local".
The is actually even different from the NYT. The NYT's 2021 roundup of top ten restaurants included only those in NYC. If it were actually a statewide newspaper like the Oregonian seems to be, they'd have surely mentioned something in Albany or Buffalo. Valereee (talk) 14:19, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
@Valereee Thanks for sharing your thoughts, but my talk page is not the place to have this discussion and we're simply not going to agree. Sorry, but if I can find a dozen in-depth profiles specifically focused on a topic, published by The Oregonian, then I am satisfied in terms of notability criteria being met, especially when those sources are folded into an entry's text with many other books, newspaper and magazine articles, etc. Clearly, I am not alone in my thinking because most of the recent articles flagged for deletion are kept. A few months ago, I was clearly being targeted and hounded/trolled by a couple editors, and I had hoped this restaurant debacle would die down, but obviously there remain a couple editors who are hyper focused on my work and insist on mass tagging. I'm just tired of the same editors voting the same way at AfD on repeat... feels like Groundhog Day. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:56, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
No worries, I thought you were asking for my thoughts. Valereee (talk) 15:06, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
@Valereee I was asking for your thoughts about a possible venue for this discussion, and I appreciate your thoughts in general, just not here because we're not going to get anywhere. :) Sorry for any confusion. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:09, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
