Artificial hybrids

[edit]

Hi Arioss. I noticed you have added a section on artificial hybrids to a number of Nepenthes species pages. I think these sections are problematic for a number of reasons. Since, as far as is known, all Nepenthes species can be crossed, there is an almost limitless number of artificial hybrids that could be created. In the case of popular species such as N. maxima, the number of named man-made hybrids alone is in the hundreds. Thus a list of artificial hybrids could never be more than an arbitrary selection of possible crosses. Since hybrids such as N. aristolochioides × N. maxima have no notability of their own and Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, I don't think they should be covered in the species pages.

Having said this, your images of man-made hybrids could be used to illustrate the section on artificial hybrids in the main Nepenthes article (which I hope to expand sometime), although we should be selective when adding images to prevent the article from becoming cluttered.
