Incubating: Female Servants in 18th Century England

Greetings! Female Servants in 18th Century England has been accepted into the Article Incubator. Please see the talk page for the entry review and suggested tasks. Thanks.     Eclipsed   ¤     14:45, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, now that North West Frontier is a disambiguation page, please don't forget the WP:FIXDABLINKS policy and help us with the clean up! Thanks, --JaGatalk 14:08, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

If I did this, I'd never do anything else. I think the best plan is for people to fix the links one at a time as they discover them. That's what I do. Biscuittin (talk) 21:31, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually, what happens (for the vast majority) is the people at the disambiguation pages with links project will fix them for you. I was just hoping you'd help. --JaGatalk 22:57, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
I will do it if I have time but I'm more interested in Wikifying new articles. I don't see it as a high priority because it doesn't stop people from finding what they want - it just means they have to make two clicks instead of one. Biscuittin (talk) 23:15, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Somebody has now converted North West Frontier back to a redirect. I don't agree with this because there are now various links which are incorrectly being redirected to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and this is what I was trying to avoid. However, I'm not going to start an edit war over it. Biscuittin (talk) 23:24, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the naming confusion of the SPA AS.37/TL.37/SPA TL.37, I think I might be able to shed some light on the subject. After doing a bit more reading it appears that SPA is short for Società per Azioni, the Italian term for a joint stock as you stated. The original vehicle seems to have been the SPA TL.37 (Società per Azioni Artillery Tractor. Model 1937). From that point the SPA TL.37 aka TL.37 has "Libia" model by adding adding larger fuel tanks and better tires, and the SPA AS.37 is the SPA TL.37 with more modifications produced for Autocarro Sahariano.

So as far as consistent naming convention I suggest using SPA TL.37 since the SPA AS.37 and SPA TL.37 “Libia” are subsets of the original. The separate SPA AS.37 and SPA TL.37 “Libia” stubs/articles should be merged under the SPA TL.37 article.

Just my thoughts on the issue.

Seansasser (talk) 21:47, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. I have copied your message to Talk:SPA AS.37 so that it can form part of the discussion. Biscuittin (talk) 20:38, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

I've done more scouring and have found the ISBN numbers for books about WWII Italian vehicles and I'll make a trip the the library to place them on order. Perhaps after reading them they will shed more light on the subject and we can proceed onward.

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Rail transport in Burundi is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:31, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Hatting of discussion on 2011 Libyan civil war

The reason I hatted the discussion is because talk pages are about discussing changes to the article, not talking about the latest conspiracy theory about the subject. As changes have to be backed up by reliable sources, the discussion wasn't going anywhere as none had been provided. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 08:00, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

The reason it isn't going anywhere is that you are trying to prevent it from going anywhere. Biscuittin (talk) 09:16, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
It was made clear before you even posted that the discussion needed to start bringing serious sources to the table quickly and you failed to do so. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 13:28, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
You may have made it clear but you don't own Wikipedia. Stop acting as judge and jury in this case. Biscuittin (talk) 13:33, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
sorry but engaging in unproductive forum level discussion is generally considered unproductive. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 13:38, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Do you have a reference for that? Biscuittin (talk) 13:47, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
WP:TALKNO. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 22:57, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Talk pages are meant to be places for discussing how to improve the article. They aren't for posting your personal opinions on if bin Laden is really dead or not, wondering why Americans are gullible, or complaining about other editors removing your inappropriate comments. If you have general questions about the psychology of Americans or the raid itself, you can always ask at the reference desk. BurtAlert (talk) 23:00, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

I did not say "Americans are gullible". I simply asked a question about American culture, which is very different from British culture, in the hope of improving my understanding of American culture. I have also written at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Censorship_at_Talk:Death_of_Osama_bin_Laden_and_Talk:2011_Libyan_civil_war. This is probably the wrong place but everything I do on Wikipedia seems to be wrong nowadays. Biscuittin (talk) 23:19, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Hello. Don't worry about the "Americans are gullible" thing, I was overexerting my reaction. I left a reply to the link you provided. Also, no hard feelings? I was just trying to enforce policy. BurtAlert (talk) 00:19, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Fine, no hard feelings. Biscuittin (talk) 02:21, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment. I know that a lot of companies do try to use Wikipedia for self-promotion, but sometimes it makes sense for them to do so, and when a "new term" is still new, it's hard for a WP editor to know whether it's pure spam. Of course, marketing jargon comes and goes, but sometimes it's widely enough used to be notable under WP standards. Have a good day! --cbdorsett (talk) 10:27, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Class 70 name

Because "Freightliner Class 70" has minor issues ( although search results look popular)with there being turkish locomitves of the same type, I'd suggest using "GE Powerhaul locomotive" in use but not as much. "GE Powerhaul" should have been the choice but it needs disambiguation since there is an engine of the same name eg http://www.ecomagination.com/technologies/powerhaul-engine/

I think Category:GE locomotives is useful to look at - they appear to use "GE" rather than "General Electric". For what it's worth "Freightliner Class 70" appears more popular with photographers, and rail interest magazines, whereas "GE Powerhaul" seems to be used by manufacturers, non-rail newspapers and rail industry magazines.

As you can see there are at least two basic choices (excluding variations) - I don't really know which should be the better choice.Imgaril (talk) 01:30, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

..It would be useful if a name could be decided on on the articles talk page, by the editors of that page - if you have a preference or other idea please mention it there. Thanks.Imgaril (talk) 12:53, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

I have put a suggestion at Talk:British Rail Class 70 (diesel). Biscuittin (talk) 14:21, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Bequisan, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. DASHBot (talk) 18:00, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Response

Herd mentality insinuates that the mentality was there beforehand. The problem is not reading my responses to their accusations and responding. They vote, the tool through which mob rule has been used to stem freedoms one by one in western society, which new things the mob doesn't like being held on forever by the perpetually self-interested beaurocracies. In this limited example, everyone votes the same as the vote before, because they see a vote, non-notable or coi, and they read the article looking for these things, and since they only have a limited part of the limited perspective presented by a simple term, and no examination of why it is, they work hard to create a bias that they hold onto in misdirected loyalty to the initial voter. As such, they look for a problem or two at most to back up their discussion and then they vote regarless of overwhelming evidence, because they are trying to make facts from theories. They might also be fourteen or have no girlfriend so they want to pick an internet fight, so they say delete if I say keep, because then they get some depth to thier lives. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canadiansteve (talkcontribs) 01:37, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Last time everyone did the voting and accusing and insulting then "WP:ing" and one guy told me the same thing, don't write much, and then people who didn't esentially understand what the technology was about and the point of it voted on it without hearing any reasonable arguments. So at least if they get mad they might bring other people to be mad with them and one might know what I'm talking about. Weak plan, but it was B anyways. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canadiansteve (talkcontribs) 01:29, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I didn't nominate that, so is there something I can do to make it fit more in the section. My interest is not just having or deleting an article, its having a GOOD article or deleting irrelevant or bad sections. Everyone tells me it reads like an ad but I don't know why, other that they say it has something to do with a compnay, but that is unrelated to how it is written, even if it was completely about a company (with its clearly isn't)Canadiansteve (talk) 23:36, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Great, I sincerely hope it works better for you than me. For ANAT technology, they are complaining about sources. I could put all the coverage the products made with ANAT technology has gnerated, but then that could be seen as advertising... what do you suppose is the right option here? I see the robotic architecture category went through, so essentially how much coverage is enough? I know I'm not supposed to compare to other pages, but otherwise how can I know?Canadiansteve (talk) 01:44, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm afraid Wikipedia is a jungle and it's often a matter of chance who gets eaten by the lions and who doesn't. I've requested that we make a decision to keep both articles and we'll see what happens. Biscuittin (talk) 14:49, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, you may not remember, but a while back you worked on this article and proposed a merger. After driving by i thought something ought to come of it. Somerset & Dorset Railway

You seem like you know what you're doing on Wikipedia! I'd like to create a page for the Somerset & Dorset Railway, a heritage railway at Midsomer Norton railway station. There is a page for the Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust on here, but that's not the railway, just the group that run it. Can you help?

Stumpytrain (talk) 01:01, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

I suggest you start off by adding it as a new section to Somerset & Dorset Railway Heritage Trust. It can then be split off into a separate article when it gets big enough. Biscuittin (talk) 09:27, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Alternatively, you could draft your article in a "Sandbox" first. I have created one for you at User:Stumpytrain/Sandbox1. Just click on "edit this page" to create your article. Biscuittin (talk) 10:35, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Caledonian Railway 0F Class

Hi, re Caledonian Railway 0F Class: this is an anomaly, because the Caledonian didn't use LMS-style power classifications. These 0-4-0ST should really be at Caledonian Railway 264 Class, that being the classification found in several books by e.g. Baxter, Haresnape and others. Generally speaking, CR classifications were the number of the first loco built to that design. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:49, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

I think you are right but I am confused because it is also called Caledonian Railway 611 Class. Can you explain this please? Biscuittin (talk) 17:03, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
The 264 Class were the 20 engines ordered by Drummond, whilst the 611 Class were the 14 ordered by McIntosh. I know of no actual difference between the two series. I've added a construction table to the article. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:45, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Miss India

Hello, Biscuittin. When you changed Miss India into a disambiguation page, you may have overlooked WP:FIXDABLINKS, which says:

A code of honor for creating disambiguation pages is to fix all resulting mis-directed links.
Before moving an article to a qualified name (in order to create a disambiguation page at the base name, to move an existing disambiguation page to that name, or to redirect that name to a disambiguation page), click on What links here to find all of the incoming links. Repair all of those incoming links to use the new article name.

It would be a great help if you would check the other Wikipedia articles that contain links to "Miss India" and fix them to take readers to the correct article. Thanks. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 11:04, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
