Feminism, long history

[edit]

I have to say you and I are probably actually on the same page vis-a-vis feminism and post-modernism--but I do consider myself a feminist though very much of my own kind. Something very ironic is happening here. slrubenstein, from what I gather from her past commits + comments, has been thoroughly indoctrinated by gender feminism. Although you two seem to be on the same side, I think for her it is something different... your motivates are entirely different. You're aiming to ensure "stark reality" is presented whereas she is aiming for "revealed truth" it seems to me.

Yeah - I had already begun to deduce as much, and was meaning to post a reply on the feminism talk, but had gotten caught up with some other stuff, so I hadn't had so much time for Wikipedia over the past few days. I appologize if i came off to hostile in the discussion. Sometimes I just get so caught up in the moment when I'm writing out an argument.

Feminism is a linguistic mess. It is really is impossible to discuss feminism with anyone simply because the definition is squishy. I'd like people to be able to read the article and understand that situation. And in that understanding, grasp the meat of what different people are talking about when they call something feminist. I am not trying to white-wash feminism. --Pearlg 08:09, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You're write - it is a mess, and I was gonna say something to that effect there too. It's not so much either of our faults as it is whoever came up with that word way back when. At any rate - I think the best compromize/solution may be for the intro to say something like "Feminism is a body of philosophies and movements with the goal of benefiting women. Some feminists advocate policies to directly benefit women, while others feel that women will benefit most in the long run through complete egalitarianism, akin to enlightened self interest. A number advocate some combination of the two." Well something like that, I dunno.... I'll try to post a more polished version there when I get a little more spare time...

--Blackcats 05:04, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm still hoping to see this from you --Pearlg 02:33, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I read your recent comments on Tone deaf and made some major edits to the article. If you could read through it and address any continued issues, I'd much appreciate it. I've removed the NPOV/Factual Inaccuracy boilerplates for now, but feel free to replace them if you find it appropriate. Matthewcieplak 03:13, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Yeah - looks good to me :-) --Blackcats 05:04, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Biased articles

[edit]

Hey, Blackcats. I see you're not too fond of politically correct neofeminism either. Anyway, here are a couple of disasters you should look at: Rape on college campuses and Feminine Beauty & the USA Popular Media. Both started by User:TK-P. - Jacottier 02:59, Apr 17, 2005 (UTC)

Hey - thanks for the heads up about those. I'm gonna register my comments on those articles. At some point I may see about creating a whole list of articles (which others could add to) that should be watched for feminist bias... Blackcats 18:25, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

GN in Serbian language

[edit]

First of all, thank you for correcting my bad English text about Serbian non-sexist language. But, I found that you didn't understand well what did I want to say. You changed "In the spirit of Serbian language..." to "Many feminists argue...". Maybe I can find better words in Serbian, but the point is not that "feminists argue something" but that "sense of natural speaker is something". There are no children who would say "ucitelju!" ("male teacher!") for female teacher, but conservatives (with a lot of linguists) tries to introduce masculine nouns as "general gender profession nouns". (Note that I am a male and that I am a linguist :) ). However, as my English is not so good, I think the good idea is that you change that part of article. Also, I can give to you some more facts if you are interested. --Millosh 08:29, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hey - I'm sorry if I messed up some of what you were trying to say in my clean-up. My clean-up of that section had two basic goals - 1. to make it more clear and easy to understand for native English speakers, and 2. to make it such that it presented opionions rather than asserting them. Though I'm certainly no expert on the debates over language in Serbian, I would assume that there, as with English and other languages, there's not a concensus on what exactly is the most "natural" way of speaking... So for instance, you might edit it such that it says something like "most native speakers of Serbian feel that this is most natural." --Blackcats 19:57, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

User KM130

[edit]

Hi Brookie here - have you seen User:Km130 ? A curate's egg 19:55, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It's User:Km130. I just reverted vandalism by Km130 to the Km130 article. Blackcats 20:00, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Self-induced abortion vfd.

Thank you for voting to keep the article on self-induced abortion. I promise to continue working to develop and improve this article. -- BD2412 talk 15:27, 2005 Jun 17 (UTC)

Notice Board

[edit]

I just recently noticed the Wikipedia:Notice board for Israel-related topics. I think it would be a good idea if someone made a Wikipedia:Notice board for Palestine-related topics. Blackcats 08:50, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I agree, so I just made one. - Mustafaa 20:24, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Making RfC for Germen

[edit]

I'm putting together an RfC for Germen's behaviour on the Islamophobia article and associated pages. Since you have been involved in disputes with this user before I was hoping you might be able to contribute to the draft before I publish it on WP:RFC. Axon 12:20, 18 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RfA for Germen

[edit]

Please be aware that, in light of the RfC against Germen, I have raised an request for arbitration for him. Axon (talk|contribs) 10:13, 28 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Database in Arabic

[edit]

Hi - thanks for your note. I have just responded in the discussion section of that article. Thanks Ramallite (talk) 17:40, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please investigate and comment on the talk page about multiple changes to the Conspiracy theory article made in the last week or so [1]. In my interpretation, clarity has been reduced and info on the mechanics of how "conspiracy theory" may bias the presentation of a subject has been downplayed or removed. zen master T 19:21, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting Articles on the Mills Mall

[edit]

I seems like your post to remove all the articles on the Mills malls is more centered around your POV rather than the interests of others. I dont understand how you would consider these articles as "Advertising"? I feel that your political views and opinions are conflicting with the best interest of this website and its purpose. For instance, Southdale Shopping Center was the first Fully-enclosed shopping mall in the United States, which is pretty significant if you look at the various economic, social and political factors that have ensured with the further development of malls in the last ~50 years. Please write back and expand on the specifics of why you feel they should be deleted , otherwise i am going to remove the tag from all the articles, because the general consesus on the discussion page is that they should be kept (about 5-6 deletes out of about 50+ keeps). Thanks!--Gephart 21:58, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

needing help

[edit]

Hi. You remember me? I'm the anti-Mac hero. I suppose you are a Mac user too, but haven't become a Mac-maniac yet. Your page looks good. Given that you know the whole story and you are an experienced wikipedian, I need to talk to you privately, when you got time and will. Luxiake 21:58, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

you got mail! Luxiake 22:22, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I sent you some e-mails. But I think it's time now to go through arbitration.Luxiake 10:07, 11 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

the Mac Connection

[edit]

These are one of the first results I got from goolge images search for "jimmy wales": [2], [3]. You know what? Criticizing Apple in here is like trying to drive away the Devil from Hell. I'm leaving wikipedia forever. Please don't leave me alone. You said my views about apple are only a rant, but maybe you haven't understood yet against what kind of beast we are fighting.

LOL - looks like he does dig his little iBook. Dunno if that's evidence of a systemic Mac bias here though. I think Mac just has a lot of avid fans, and Wikipedia lets anyone join and start editing. But I personally don't care for anything that comes from Apple and starts with "i" - "iMac," "iMovie," "iDVD" - they're all really low powered and limited in terms of what they let do. iPod may be an exception, but I haven't used one of those yet. The built in software limits what formats you can play, but you can instal Linux on it if you want more choices. Blackcats 16:51, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

New Mexico-geo-stub

[edit]

Hi - I note you've recently created a new stub category. Did you realise that stub categories should normally be cleared by Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting before creation? That way they can be vetted to check that there are a viable number of stubs and that the category does not cross the existing stub hierarchy before the stub is created.

If you can provide any information on why the stub was created, please add a note to entry for the stub at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries giving the reason for it. In addition, if there is any Wikiproject associated with the stub add that information. Thanks. Be aware, however, that un-proposed stub types are liable for deletion to be nominated for deletion at WP:SFD.

In the case of this stub, the name of the template was contrary to standard stub naming guidelines, and has been renamed NewMexico-geo-stub. Also, you should be aware that many geographical divisions - including all US states - are regularly tallied, and new stub categories are split off when they reach a set threshold size of 65 stubs. New Mexico is one of a number of US states which has yet to reach that level. The new category will almost certainly not be deleted, however; New Mexico is close enough to 65 stubs that this has simply moved forward something that was likely to happen fairly soon anyway. I'm just glad that it wasn't Delaware (which currently only has four stub articles).

If you're interested in helping sort stubs, we're always looking for new members of the project - but we'd really appreciate it if you followed the rules before creating new stub types! Grutness...wha? 05:37, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

the irony is you added {{WPSS-cat}} to the new category and that says not to make new stub types without proposing them! BL kiss the lizard 08:31, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
