Dorchester flooding

[edit]

I've added and sourced some bits on the recent flooding. Nyttend (talk) 02:40, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would be good to add history, etc. bits: as long as they're verifiably sourced to reliable sources. Nyttend (talk) 03:42, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you agree. Cedarvale1965-08 (talk) 03:47, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with the little bit that I removed is that it's not really good to list average businesses: Wikipedia isn't a directory, so we shouldn't list all the businesses in town, and if we list only some of them, it's not fair to the ones we leave out. Nyttend (talk) 04:58, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The thing is that, basically, Wikipedia isn't the place for anecdotes, even when they are somewhat relevant to the topic of the article. Nyttend (talk) 04:53, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apology accepted

[edit]

I accept your apology. Everyone, myself definitely included, make mistakes. Honestly, I should of have asked if you wanted to discuss about including that bit of text about Valleyfair employees in the article instead of assuming that you were using the talk page as a forum. Joining projects

[edit]

The Welcoming Committee is very easy to join - have a look at Wikipedia:Welcoming Committee for more info. Just add yourself to the member list, and familiarize yourself with the various welcome templates that can be used on new users' talk pages. I find the ones listed at WP:UTM are particularly helpful. Remember to choose an appropriate one for the user you have decided to welcome - so, for example, if a user has made some unhelpful edits, don't use a template that thanks them for their contributions! Welcoming new users can help newbies find their way around, and can also encourage new users whose first edits have not been helpful, and hopefully bring them on board as productive contributors.

Hope you join us - thanks for your message and best wishes. --Karenjc 23:21, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to hear it! Welcome, and have fun with it. --Karenjc 23:25, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Speedy Deletion Tags

[edit]

It's very simple to do. Simply add the tag at the top of the article. For example, if the article is a advertisement, add {{db-spam}} to the top of the page. More details can be found here. Cheers! TNX-Man 00:36, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would be best if you use the tags that Tnxman notes: I may be offline for a long time or be concentrating on something else, and someone else could delete it easily. I sometimes look through the speedy delete list, so I too have things delete sometimes. Nyttend (talk) 04:24, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA

[edit]

I am sorry, but I have closed your Request for adminship prematurely. Simply put, you only have 120 edits on Wikipedia; while your edit count isn't the only determining factor, and numerous people have their own personal standards by which they judge RfA candidates, this particular RfA was all but assured of not passing.

I am sorry about this, and I hope you don't take it personally. If you continue to contribute to the project in a positive fashion, I am confident that you would be able to submit a successful RfA in the future. You may wish to consider applying for an evaluation by other Wikipedia editors for feedback on how to obtain the necessary experience. Once you are ready to request adminship again, there is a great admin coaching program available, as well as a guide to requests for adminship.

If you have any other questions about becoming an administrator, please don't hesitate to ask me. Good luck! Enigma message 03:23, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like your RFA has already been closed, but no problem. xenocidic (talk) 03:30, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A quick editor review

[edit]

Hello, and thanks for submitting your RFA. I've left a list of general suggestions there that might help you in the future. I have also done an editor review. Cedarvale, Eagan, Minnesota is a nice start. Good vadal warning. I see some good Wikignome edits. A good start. However-- this edit is defamatory in nature, and merely expresses your opinion. Dorchester, IA was a nice try, but our naming conventions are for the full name of the state. This edit needs a verifiable source. You really should get more experience before warning uses about possible deletion. Also, we have a set of templated warnings to maintain a consistent message-- Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. I believe we should lay a welcome on new users first of all. Wikipedia:Welcoming committee/Welcome templates. Aside form promoting a collegial atmosphere, it gives them a ready reference for policies and guidelines. In short, you're off to a good start, but more experience and familiarity with policies and guidelines are needed. Cheers, and happy editing. Dlohcierekim 03:35, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome. hope it helps. Dlohcierekim 03:40, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Iowa Farmer Today Webpage.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Iowa Farmer Today Webpage.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 07:06, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the nature of the block applied we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
  3. If you are still blocked, copy the {{unblock-ip|...}} code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section. This is usually hidden within the "What do I do now?" section. If so, just click the "[show]" link to the right hand side to show this text.
  4. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page and click save.

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Statements such as this are discouraged. xenocidic (talk) 01:32, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Xenocidic. Please consider removing this statement. It is unnecessarily inflammatory and doesn't contribute to a spirit of cooperation and collaboration with other editors. Thanks, Gwernol 01:42, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Yes, you are certainly free to talk about what you like, but it's best not to talk about what you dislike, especially with such strong language. Anyhow, thank you for the quick resolution. xenocidic (talk) 01:51, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Iowa Farmer Today

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Iowa Farmer Today requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. RayAYang (talk) 22:23, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Deerwood Elementary

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Deerwood Elementary, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. CultureDrone (talk) 20:31, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Because, with the best will in the world, there's nothing apparently notable about the school - nothing unusual about the building, no major events in its history, no academic honours, no notable alumni etc. CultureDrone (talk) 20:39, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah - just because it's a school doesn't mean Wikipedia's criteria for notability don't apply. There is a proposed guideline at WP:SCHOOL - this isn't official Wikipedia policy, but it gives, in my opinion, a good general idea on whether a school deserves its own article or not. What I've done in the past is to create an article about the school district, and redirect 'non-notable' schools to that instead. Have a look at District School Board Ontario North East and North Middlesex Regional School District if you want some ideas. :-) CultureDrone (talk) 20:49, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. If you want any help, just yell :-) CultureDrone (talk) 20:52, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Back to Dorchester

[edit]

Thanks for your note — the reason I've undone what you have at Dorchester is for linking reasons. Linking to Waukon isn't needed, because it's already linked above: this is overlinking. On the other hand, even though it's a redlink, you shouldn't remove the link to Allamakee Community School District: school districts are notable enough to get articles, so it's entirely reasonable to suppose that it would get its own article eventually — therefore you shouldn't remove the link (see [[Wikipedia:Red link for details). Finally, as far as the bus: it's frankly just trivia to include the all-in-one-bus, especially since I seriously doubt that it's verifiable. I'm not saying that it's untrue, but that it's not likely that a reliable source would discuss the fact. Moreover, it's really minor; even if Britannica had an article on Dorchester, I can't imagine it including that part — how does it help our encyclopedia to include that? Please don't think that I'm complaining at you; I simply want to ensure that you know my reasons for disagreeing with you :-) Nyttend (talk) 01:35, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've expanded the article somewhat, and I've added links to it elsewhere. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 04:05, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And thanks for the note :-) Nyttend (talk) 17:42, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Go to Category:Northeast Iowa Conference and create it like you would a page: just add a little text by putting in a little explanation at the top and adding categories — see Category:Upper Prospect Multiple Resource Area for a basic category of this sort, although on a very different subject. Let me ask, however: are you planning to categorise articles about schools and/or districts, or articles on the cities where they are based? Nyttend (talk) 03:25, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Iowa Farmer Today Website.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. — neuro(talk) 06:34, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Decorah Chevrolet Cadillac

[edit]

You're correct about why I removed the Decorah Chevrolet Cadillac bit: it's clearly advertising. As it is, we really list too many businesses there anyway, so I've removed the bits about other companies in the area. I left one that is based there: since so few companies overall have articles, it's reasonable to list the notable companies that are located there. Thanks for your question; and although I'll not likely be able to make many edits, look at my contributions and you may see new pictures being posted occasionally. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
