A tag has been placed on St. John the Evangelist Church, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. A tag has been placed on St. Michael's and All Angels, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. – moonty (talk) (contribs) 08:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

In general, parish churches are not considered notable in Wikipedia. They need to be shown to have some particular distinction as demonstrated by 3rd party independent reliable published sources, print or online (but not blogs or press releases), any language. A statement about the worthy intent of the founder or the churches mission is not enough--such statements if that is all the content are considered promotional. . It needs such things as significance in the area as proven by press stories talking about it in a substantial way, not just announcing events. Or it can be an historic building, or an early historic foundation even if not an historic building,or the principal church of a substantial area, or have either now or in the past a very famous pastor. Unless something of this sort is at least indicated or asserted, the article will be speedy deleted. Please see WP:FIRST for our general standards. I suggest, by the way, that you might want to try articles on Anglican bishops--every bishop, now or past, of a territorial church such as this one, is often considered notable, though it helps to have some real information about writings or obits in major publications. And for churches, try the historic ones, as suggested above. As a reminder, always be sure not to copy their websites, or use a photograph unless you yourself have taken it or it is in the public domain. DGG (talk) 10:25, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
