[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, as you did at Darren J. Prior. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. скоморохъ 15:31, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Gael-Taca, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Gael-Taca and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mhking (talk) 22:49, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletionpedia

[edit]

Hi! I noticed your request at Wikipedia talk:Database reports to delete the article about you on Deletionpedia. Unfortunately, that is not something we can do from Wikipedia, since Deletionpedia is a bot-generated repository that cannot be edited by users. You can, however, request deletion of the page using the form available here, which will send the request to Deletionpedia's administrator. License tagging for File:Gaeltaca.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Gaeltaca.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:05, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Status of the Irish language, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page SuperValu. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A tag has been placed on File:TescoFailteSign.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A tag has been placed on File:Bilingual-sign-in-irish-and-english-dublin-ireland.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

Copyvios

[edit]

Please stop uploading copyright images. You did not even try to find free use images - category:bilingual road signs in Ireland contained ten before I did my upload. If these are still insufficient and you are not prepared or not able to go out and take photos yourself, then take time to find free use images for example on Geograph. But here is one which: you are free to use, is quadri-lingual and is "self-referential" since it is about bilingualism. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:28, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this image has any special merit except possibly to show that the official sign on the right is bilingual but the unofficial ones on the left all in English. But if you would like me to upload it, just say. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 12:15, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please learn to sign talk page comments with ~~~~. "Add this image instead". You don't tell me where you want it added and in any case why should I have to do it for you? You already know perfectly well how to use images in articles.

In passing, please explain this edit. What was so wrong with the old, properly licensed image that you felt it necessary to replace it with a copyvio? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:58, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi I added which I think is a better image to replace that sign under "Daily Life". I took the new photo today. The other one used the old Irish font that is not in use in new official bilingual signage in Ireland. I will add the Géill Slí myself one now. When I am in the Gaeltacht next (which may not be until Summer) I will take my own photo(s). Darren J. Prior Darren J. Prior (talk) 17:35, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

If you want me to believe that File:BilingualsignGraftonStreetDublinIreland.jpg is actually your work, you will upload the original image from your phone. I will then crop it for you without resizing and with the EXIF metadata preserved. Also, if you upload any more geographical images, please make sure that you provide exact coordinates.

Incidentally do you know why Ireland uses this non-standard "no entry" sign? I was interest to see (I think it was at Muckross House and possibly at other places) unofficial no entry signs using the European standard style. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:48, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Bilingual sign Grafton Street, Dublin, Ireland.jpg
A bilingual Irish language/English language sign on the bottom of Grafton Street Dublin, Ireland.
Cropped version

"Don't know of any of those …" Well, you do now! My photo was taken in John O'Connell Street, Cobh near the junction with Park View and West View (map sources).

No mate, I am sure that is not the original image: the size of 480×266 px is far too small and the fragmentary EXIF metadata says "Picasa". Now Picasa is not the name of your phone! It is the name of the software, probably in its web version, which you used to get the image to your computer and it cannot be trusted to preserve images exactly as sent to it. Surely there is a way of getting images from you phone to your computer without using Picasa? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:51, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I will hopefully have the internet sorted on my phone by Monday- I have to call upto the Three shop over the next couple of days. Give me until Monday and I will hopefully have the orginal image uploaded. — D Darren J. Prior Darren J. Prior (talk) 17:29, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I spent a pleasant few minutes on a virtual walk in Dublin thanks to Google Streetview hoping to prove you wrong but only finding instances of the Euro standard no entry sign. Even as I was doing the walk an edit war was going on at comparison of European road signs over this morning's addition of the Euro version for Ireland. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:16, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK. Tomorrow is a bank holiday tomorrow so the Three shop is closed. I should have the original image uploaded from my phone no later than Tuesday evening. If there are any problems I will let you know then. Darren J. Prior (talk) 16:43, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the edit war, Fry1989 (talk · contribs) was saying the opposite of you, claiming never to have seen the Euro version. I think I have now convinced them that they do exist. Your new version of the Grafton Street is credible because it tells me the model of your phone. Have the higher resolution version of the cropped state with my compliments.

Regarding coordinates, I have a camera with a GPS receiver that adds lat/long to the metadata automatically but, failing that, I know how to use Google maps to get coordinates. However I recognise that it is a skill that not everybody possesses. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:39, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Gaelscoil

[edit]

I have got information for this page from this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland.

I don't know whether the figure listed on that page of 358,000 students attending primary schools in Ireland is the current number. So I may not be right and 11% of primary schoool children in the Rep. of Ireland may not be enrolled in gaelscoileanna and the figure may be as previously stated 6%. I don't know. Does anyone else?

______

It's ok. I got the 2014/2015 figures from the Dept. of Education website! :)

[edit]

Do you know that you have to declare a Conflict of Interest on your user page? A conflict of interest is every case in which you are might have conflicting interests due to a very close relationship with a (series of) subjects. Let me be true, it is not forbidden to write about your employer or something you are passionate about, but it makes it far more difficult to keep the necessary distance. Irish language education

[edit]

I guess it will not surprise you when I say that I still object against the long lists of organisations you have added to many articles. To my feeling, they can be better put in a navigation template.

So I have now two questions:

  1. Is there an article about Irish language education?
  2. What do you think about my draft of a navigation template here: User:The Banner/Workpage6.

If you like the draft, I invite you to add items to it.

Cabra/An Chabrath

[edit]

Hi Darren, I've seen your request at WP:PM – I understand what you are trying to do, you want to link the English Wikipedia article Cabra, Dublin to the Irish Gaelic Wikipedia equivalent article An Chabrath, via the language links. The explanation for how to do so is given at Help:Interlanguage links#Adding a new link, but it is coming up with an error (as you may have already found out yourself) and I don't know how to solve it. I think as it's a technical request you might be better off asking at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), because there's nothing controversial (it seems) about your merge request, it's more a technical issue of not being able to carry it out. BSG / Gaeltacht Service Towns

[edit]

Hi, I welcomed your edits to the Bailte article - but the article still doesn't explain what they are. If they are simply a new form of Gaeltacht, then we can simply say that, but my understanding is that it is not quite that. And then the lede does need to state why this concept / designation is notable, which is not clear to me at all. No one I consulted can put it clearly either, but it's not within my core areas of WP study, so I have not had time to research it myself. Thanks, SeoR (talk) 10:51, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
