Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Flemish Ardennes article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, and under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribute Share-Alike."

In 1998, I created a website about the Flemish Ardennen and South-East-Flanders in Geocities. This website disappeared however in 2009. As author of the contenct, I would like to donate the content to Wikipedia by adding it to existing webpages in Wikipedia, or by creating new webpages in Wikipedia. Is this OK ? (This is the OP from a different IP) Ah, that does happen. You may want to start at WP:IOWN. Notice, however, that both options listed there require you to have some access to the original site -- either to place a GFDL notice on the original page or to send an e-mail from an associated e-mail address. Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials is another good page to read, and you may consider posting a comment on its talk page to get an administrator's input. A couple of quick notes: standard formatting here has new messages posted below the earlier messages (i.e. new posts should show up at the bottom of the page), and you can sign your posts by typing four tildes, like ~~~~. Thank you for your advise. Though I have been editing content at the web since 1998, I am really a beginner at Wikipedia. I'll follow your advise and I'll start at WP:IOWN. Also thanks to you, I discovered Reocities. I was not aware of its existence. Great to see that my website is still alive at Reocities, though I can't edit it, and apparently, nobody seems to find my website at Reocities. Would you mind if I change the external link on the Wikipedia webpage about Flemish Ardennes from Geocities to Reocities ? Otherwhise, interested readers just end up with a Yahoo! page about the ending of Geocities. With that change, I clicked the new link and immediately noticed the url for the first link. It is http://www.reocities.com/dideru/map.html -- It contains your username. That lends support to your statements above. Excellent! That means you can follow the e-mail procedure at WP:IOWN. That's the best course of action to take. That will allow the foundation to verify that you are indeed the copyright holder and that you have the authority to contribute that text. Before you do, though, please make sure that you are familiar with the GFDL and Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. You will be permanently granting certain rights. Last week, I've followed your suggestion and I went for the e-mail procedure at WP:IOWN. I decided to send an e-mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org through dideru@yahoo.com, which I did about one week ago. Since then, one week passed, but no reply. Is this normal ? Am I not patient enough ? Also, in the meantime, I discovered that the Reocities website is not on-line anymore, but my old website can still be seen at Internet Archive. Unfortunately, the pictures which I posted on my website are not shown at Internet Archive, leaving quite some broken windows on my website. Though I find the situation not ideal, I have added the link to Internet Archive to the Wikipedia webpage about Flemish Ardennes for the time being.Dideru (talk) 13:15, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what the normal response time is. If they haven't gotten back to you by now, you might want to send another e-mail. In addition to the information you sent the first time, near the top of the e-mail you may want to point them to this page so they'll know exactly which user is e-mailing them and have quick links to the article and your edit history. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 10:33, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
