Cjhanley && No Gun Ri Massacre

[edit]

Hi. What do you think of that, by User:Cjhanley, who seems to mostly edit related to No Gun Ri Massacre and has a user name which would suggest they are the author. Special:Contributions/Cjhanley. For the time being, I reverted it, and fixed the ref. I see other bits needful, too. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 06:57, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also: I noticed this:
  • <ref name="Alex181">{{harvnb|Appleman|1998|p=181}}</ref>
It's saying Appleman 1998, but I'm wondering if it's supposed to be Alexander 2003 per the name. It could easily just by a copypasta-typo. Another reason to eschew names refs. I'm updating it to {{sfn}} ATM. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 09:12, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Military history coordinator election

[edit]

The Military history WikiProject has started its 2012 project coordinator election process, where we will select a team of coordinators to organize the project over the coming year. If you would like to be considered as a candidate, please submit your nomination by 14 September. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact one of the current coordinators on their talk page. This message was delivered here because you are a member of the Military history WikiProject. – Military history coordinators (about the projectwhat coordinators do) 08:58, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Ed, I hope that you consider nominating to be one of the coordinators - given your extensive experience (especially with the A class review process) you'd be perfect for the role. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 10:38, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

[edit]

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:25, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

[edit]

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:15, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Main page appearance: Jesse L. Brown

[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Jesse L. Brown know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on December 4, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/December 4, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Jesse L. Brown

Jesse L. Brown (1926–1950) was the first African-American naval aviator in the United States Navy, and the first naval officer killed in the Korean War. Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to an impoverished family, Brown had an avid interest in aircraft from a young age. After graduating as salutatorian of his high school, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1946 and became a midshipman one year later. He earned his pilot wings on 21 October 1948 amid a flurry of press coverage. He was subsequently assigned to Fighter Squadron 32 aboard the USS Leyte. At the outset of the Korean War, the Leyte was ordered to the Korean Peninsula, arriving in October 1950. Brown flew 20 combat missions before his F4U Corsair aircraft came under fire and crashed on a remote mountaintop on 4 December 1950 during a mission supporting ground troops at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. Brown died of his wounds in spite of efforts by wingman Thomas J. Hudner, Jr., who intentionally crashed his aircraft attempting a rescue and was later awarded the Medal of Honor. Brown's successes in the segregated US military were memorialized in several books, and the frigate USS Jesse L. Brown (FF-1089) was named in his honor. (Full article...)

AfD

[edit]

Hi Ed. I see you're contributing quite a bit to the AfD discussions. I want to point out that "per nom" and "per above" are considered arguments to avoid and many editors and admins who close AfD's do not weigh in those contributions to the discuss as heavily or sometimes at all when making their decision. Any way, if you're already taking the time to read the articles and examine the AfD then you should make sure your discussion contributions are fully being considered in scale with your opinion. Hope this helps. Mkdwtalk 11:02, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thank you for letting me know. I haven't contributed to AfD in some time, and I'm just getting back to Wikipedia after an extended absence, so I haven't been up on these sort of things. I'll take care to be more clear in my reasoning in the future AfDs. —Ed!(talk) 14:21, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Essex-class carrier air groups

[edit]

I don't think that I'd seen volume 2 of this book: Polmar, Norman; Genda, Minoru (2006). Aircraft Carriers: A History of Carrier Aviation and Its Influence on World Events. Vol. Volume 1, 1909–1945. Washington, D.C.: Potomac Books. ISBN 1-57488-663-0. {{cite book}}: |volume= has extra text (help) when I reviewed your Philippine Sea article, but it has a fair amount of info on air groups in the post-war period. I think that it would be definitely worth your while if you want to do more articles on the Essex's.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 17:08, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Much thanks. I'll look to that for improving the two I've already been working on. —Ed!(talk) 18:19, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2013 WikiCup!

[edit]

Hello Ed!, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The competition begins at midnight UTC. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders: *The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page. *Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started the review in 2013.) We will be checking. *If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself. *Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens. *Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked. Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck!
