Thanks for the warm welcome, ClueBot! (sarcasm) Georgeqgreg (talk) 02:15, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at BBC Kids. Your edits continue to appear to constitute vandalism and have been automatically reverted.

  • If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Note that human editors do monitor recent changes to Wikipedia articles, and administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism.

Thank you. ClueBot NG (talk) 02:33, 14 June 2017 (UTC) Note for anyone passing by here: OK, I was being humourous with my comment above, but now this is serious. This is rather annoying that the bot thinks deleting other users' bad jokes is vandalism. I swear if I get banned on day one... well, you know what they say! No good deed goes unpunished. As an aside, I know you are upset at the bot reverting your edits, but don't take it personally. Even though I see that your edits seems to be valid for the most part, your edits were only reversed because others used the text you added in an unconstructive fashion. If you haven't already, please report the false positives so that the bot may be improved. Jumpytoo Talk 02:50, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I haven't taken it personally (how can you even be personal with a bot?) and have reported them. It just seems rather unlucky that my FIRST TWO edits were both reverted! In other words, it's another typical day for me at least, so I'm used to it! Georgeqgreg (talk) 02:53, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

List of programmes

[edit]

Hi Georgeqgreg, As per WP:UNSOURCED I'm entitled to remove any unsourced content especially when it's been unsourced for a good few years, IPs/socks have constantly added these lists and instead of sourcing them they continue to add programmes on to it,
I apologise tho for reverting all of your edits - I assumed your edits were related to lists but I was wrong so apologies for that,
BTW Welcone to the 'pedia :), –Davey2010Talk 00:47, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for responding to my concern, Davey2010. Although my concern wasn't exactly with the removal of "my" edits. (Which, I'll note, actually were added mostly by IPs, and I think a bot.) Though I am a little concerned with the removal of the lists. I'm aware you are an editor with a very excellent track record (and even if you weren't, I still wouldn't throw you under any buses.) but I am uncertain if you're 100% in the right here, not that'd it be my call, ever, in the first place.
As for my concerns:
1. They're unsourced? I thought a citation to zap2it was placed on the article, and unless you're a time traveller, I can say that indeed Zap2it has the current schedule, and they normally do a pretty good job keeping it up to date. You can also check TV Passport and the channels' own websites to verify the truthiness of what's on those lists. There are some bunk entries on those lists, I'm aware, it's especially difficult with the former programming lists as anything that's no longer airing obviously isn't on a (current) schedule. (Though, the CRTC has program logs located here: ftp://support.crtc.gc.ca/logs/ that are often very useful for verifying entries, as long as you have some idea of the time frame in which they aired. Or like sorting through hundreds of logs I guess.) Some of the entries that were there, I'm quite certain are false, but they've been very persistently re-added and I don't want to get into an edit war over them. (You may have noticed citation needed tags were added to them... by me, but that part isn't that important.)
2. The last time you removed the show list from Cartoon Network (Canada), one of the IP editors added it back. (And for some reason they added quite an old copy of it too. Much of the editing between then and now has been fixing the dang list.) I feel that this is likely to happen again. As you probably know much better than me what to do in this situation, I just thought it would be helpful for you to know.
3. I noticed that you yourself also created the article List of programmes broadcast by Nicktoons (UK and Ireland), containing a list of former programming that you appear to have also added in, and tagged as needing citations. Do you intend to also remove that list on these grounds? Again, I'm not trying to throw you under a bus, I just was struck by the discrepancy.
4. I also would be interested in knowing what you think could be done to save the lists of programming on CN and Family Jr. I noticed on your aforementioned article that largely for the current programming, show pages and press releases were used to cite the presence of those programs. However, show pages often aren't updated very well by channels here, (especially Corus channels, like CN; Family Jr may fare better there) and press releases are less often released for updates to channel content here. Georgeqgreg (talk) 01:16, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Geroge, Apologies for the wording there - "As per WP:UNSOURCED I'm entitled to remove any unsourced content" came across worse than I thought so apologies for that, I actually meant unsourced content can basically be removed per UNSOURCED which certainly sounds alot better,
It's all extremely confusing but from what I can make of it each and every programme needs to be sourced one way or another even former programmes - Unfortunately a few IPs one article ended up anding loads of shows that didn't even exist let alone air so programmes these days are more or less removed per wp:unsourced,
Although my userpage does state I created it technically I didn't - I just copied it from the Nicktoons article, The American and British networks are different - Not all of what's aired in the UK was aired in America and vice versa whereas whatever was on CN Canada is probably already on List of programs broadcast by Cartoon Network so none of these "spin offs" are really needed, FWIW I've nominated a good 10-20 "List of programmes by Cartoon Network broadcasted in" because all of the info is at List of programs broadcast by Cartoon Network and I believe all have now been deleted,
I know I've said this elsewhere but if America and UK kids shows were the exact same then the UK ones would've faced the chopping block too,
Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 01:57, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Zap2it usually is considered by other TV article editors to be a reliable source for programming currently on American and Canadian TV. They do seem to work very hard to be accurate. So, do you think individually citing each currently airing program with the current schedule (or perhaps better yet, an archived copy thereof) would be appropriate in this case? In the case of former programming, I would suggest either archived versions of the channel sites, archived schedules if possible, or the CRTC logs. (Which, I'll note, are required by law to be accurate; to falsify them would be perjury, I believe.)
And, Canadian TV is fairly similar to UK TV in that regard. Our CN too only has half the shows that are on the same channel with that name in the US. The other half either doesn't air at all or airs on completely different channels. In that sense, I feel like you have just justified the existence of the show lists. (Though, I don't think you'd object to them either way as long as they're well-sourced.)
As for the IP editors, many of the true entries on that list were in fact added by IP editors before I could get to them. That would seem to correspond with Wikipedia policy, to avoid blocking editing from IP address with protection, specifically because of the high volume of useful edits coming from IP addresses. But yes I agree a few IP editors have definitely been causing problems. As I warned you of earlier, an IP editor already added the show list on CN back. (And you removed it again.) You're surely better at this then me, but I advise you that some of these editors are quite tenacious, and as I alluded to earlier, I had to settle for citation needed tags (for now) to avoid getting into an edit war on some entries. I was however, doing my best to ensure that every entry was true, while they existed. Georgeqgreg (talk) 04:00, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
