translation?

[edit]

Hi- Any idea what the name Al-Sinnabra or Sinn en-Nabra mean? --Sreifa (talk) 06:12, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure. I searched Al-Sinnabra in Arabic in all kinds of variations (سنابره, صنابره and so forth) and none of them showed any reference to the site in question. My conclusion is that the name is an arabized version of the Hellenistic name Sennabris. Sinn en-Nabra, however, looks more Arabic in nature, although it might also be derived from the Hellenistic name. I think that in Arabic it should be spelled سن النبرة. The word سن translates as "tooth" or as "year", and نبرة means sound, vocalization, or a tune. It is also related to the word مِنْبَر (minbar), which is the preacher's platform in the mosque. So far I haven't been able to make sense of that combination, maybe if I read more about the location I might have an epiphany (: Sorry I couldn't be more help... Your help to review this draft page in Hebrew?

[edit]

Hi Guy, I would like to review this draft for a biography in Hebrew, and wondered whether you coud give me a hand: https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%9E%D7%A9%D7%AA%D7%9E%D7%A9:Neuralia/%D7%98%D7%99%D7%95%D7%98%D7%94 It is actually a rough translation from the original article in English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katja_Loher Thank you so much for your kind help. Cheers, Neuralia

Hi Neuralia! I wonder how you found me since I haven't edited anything in years. Anyway, I read your translation and I have a few comments. I know nothing about Katja Loher or her art, so maybe some clarifications are in order.
לעתים קרובות היא משלבת אלמנטים כוריאוגרפיים אורגניים, פלנטריים ומרגשים בראייה אווירית פנורמית
Reading the original, it seems that the choreographic elements are what's moving - which would translate as אלמנטים כוריאוגרפיים נעים. Regarding the "panoramic aerial perspectives".... honestly I have no idea what that even means. Is the art meant to be seen from the bird's eye view? Is it supposed to seem as if it is floating in the air?
חינוך - better to write השכלה for "education". Also if she attended a school we say היא למדה באקול סופריור and not היא השתתפה.
תערוכות יחיד רצופות של אמנותו - because she is female write של אומנותה.
יצירתו של לוהר נבדקה במקורות אמנות ובעיתונים, והיא מכוסה בסדרת ספרים מרובת כרכים שפרסמה הגלריה אנדרס תלמן.
I suggest a different translation. מקורות אומנותיים רבים סקרו את עבודותיה של לוהר, ובנוסף הן נסקרו בסדרת ספרים....
The original article really liked the passive voice... In the case of the sentence above it is quite awkward.
I thought about editing this directly on your page, but decided against as it is your page.
עובד מתקני האמנות של לוהר משתמשים לעתים קרובות
It's not מתקני it's מיצבי like in the beginning
The rest of the final paragraph is a mess, I would rephrase the whole thing.
Regards, Guy
Hi, Guy. Yes, the videos are filmed and displayed as is they had been shot from a roof top camera (i.e., bird´s eye view). The sphreres where the videos are projected are positioned as if floating in the air, correct. You may view a video about her work at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCztJF1ohs4 Please do not hesitate and edit the draft yourself directly, it will be greatly appreciated.
Best, Neuralia
In fact, Guy, this is the English version of the final paragraph: "Loher's art installations often use arrays of floating bubble-shaped glass objects as screens to project successive audio visual sequences, showing diverse moving ornaments, choreographies recorded from above, plus poetic texts with existential questions. Examples of such installations exhibited in galleries in recent years are her pieces Bubbles (2010), Bang Bang (2014), Videoplanet-Orchestra (2014), Vuela Vuela (2016), and What happens to the swallows who are late for spring? (2020). Her piece Where Does The Rainbow End?, permanently installed since 2018 at the Swissgrid headquarters (Aarau), is a seven-section video line where ant figures move along the elements of nature (water, earth, air, and fire) and then onwards into "dreams", inviting the viewer to philosophical questions contrasting against a technically complex working environment."
Thanks a lot, once again, Neuralia

Hi Guy, I am still in trouble with this page translation. Would you please consider making the changes on the draft page yourself? It would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Neuralia
