Titanic (1997 film)

[edit]

I see that you're relatively new here, and I don't mean to sound confrontational, but I'm curious as to why you reverted Jienum's edits to the plot summary with an edit summary claiming that their information was unsourced. Given they were edits to the plot, sourcing would not typically be required, and I didn't see anything in their changes that seemed to necessitate a source.

As you may or may not be aware, Jienum was subsequently blocked for a week for edit-warring over their changes, and there is a discussion at the film's Talk page regarding the situation, which you're welcome to contribute to, or not.

If you really did revert Jienum's edits because of sourcing concerns, I'd very much like more information about that, ideally at the film's Talk page. Otherwise, please be more careful to use an edit summary that accurately reflects your concerns. Thank you, and Happy Editing. DonIago (talk) 00:36, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DonIago, I'll try to contribute it on the film's talk page regarding the situation with Jienum. Hayleez (talk) 01:00, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion tagging

[edit]

Your WP:A7 tag at Draft:Xiao Yuliang was wrong. You do not have sufficient experience to tag articles for speedy deletion. Please don't do it anymore.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:43, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bbb23, I won't do it again till I have enough experience. Hayleez (talk) 23:13, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hayleez, you are doing speedy deletion tagging today after stating that you wouldn't do it again. You are doing it incorrectly. You need to review WP:CSD. Please stop now. Liz Read! Talk! 01:11, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Liz, I'll keep it in mind and review WP:CSD. Hayleez (talk) 01:36, 24 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A bit of gibberish on a user page from February does not require deletion. No need to tag them for vandalism speedy delete. Thank you. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 00:53, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This was not a proper U5 tag, there was nothing promotional about the userpage and it was not "webhost"y. Thanks! Eagles 24/7 (C) 16:08, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, Eagles247, my mistake. Hayleez (talk) 16:12, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I thought your speedy tag at User:Vaxo Chun was entirely inappropriate. They had written Hi and their username. How is that a problem? Why would you want to police it? Let's face it, that editor is probably finished here anyway – for you to rock up and do that looks uncomfortably like WP:GRAVEDANCING, which we do not do. I reverted your edits there, believing them to be wrong, though of course it is your privilege to dispute this if you wish. (I wouldn't if I were you.) I hope this helps. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 22:26, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hayleez, you are tagging a bunch of articles for WP:CSD#G5 deletion that are ineligible as they have been edited by editors other than the sock account. I see above that you have made many errors when CSD tagging. Please stop until you have more experience. If you continue, you will likely find yourself blocked. Good intentions don't override the disruption caused by persistent bad CSD tagging.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:32, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hayleez, you keep saying that you won't tag pages for speedy deletion but you're doing it right now! Please stop now so you don't get a block. You are doing some good work but by not abiding by your words and ignoring admin's advice about inappropriate CSD tagging, you will soon find yourself losing your editing privileges. Liz Read! I declined your CSD tag on Griffin Lotson, because it isn't obviously and solely promotion. I agree the article could use more context to signify notability and therefore reason for inclusion in the encyclopedia, but the more appropriate step if you feel it doesn't belong would be WP:AFD.  Frank  |  talk  16:47, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging templates for deletion

[edit]

Hello, Hayleez,

While I greatly appreciate all of the work you've done, please do not tag templates for speedy deletion. If you believe one should be deleted, please nominate it for deletion at TFD rather than tagging it for speedy deletion. This is because when you tag a template, the deletion notice appears on every page the template appears on which can be dozens of pages that SHOULDN'T be deleted. But all of those pages then show up in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as having been created by blocked or banned users which can confuse the editors and admins who patrol the CSD categories. At a TFD discussion, they can use a bot to remove all of the incidents when the template appears on an article. Thanks again for your help. Liz Read! Talk! 04:36, 7 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging pages to speedy deletion

[edit]

Hello, Hayleez,

I see you've returned to CSD tagging and from those I've seen, you've been accurate about 50% of the time which is still not so good but you are making some improvement. You are still considered a pretty new editor. Please do not tag a page as a CSD test edit if it resembles an article draft...even a bad article draft is not a "test". Please be careful with your page tagging and make sure you know CSD criteria backwards and forwards and if you have questions, ask me or ask at the Teahouse. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 03:22, 6 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hayleez, I agree with your tagging of User:Underliar/sandbox but you HAVE to post a notice on the talk page of the page creator every time you tag any page for deletion. If you use Twinkle, set up your Preferences always to "Notify page creator" and Twinkle will post this notices for you. If you don't want to make use of Twinkle, then you will have to write these notices yourself. This isn't an optional step, it's part of tagging pages for deletion that every editor should do. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:48, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, again, Hayleez. Please do not tag user talk pages for deletion. The only time we would delete user talk pages is if there is BLP or copyright violating content or some unusual situation. Otherwise, user talk pages are retained. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:17, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just to emphasize, I don't think Hayleez should be tagging any user pages for speedy deletion. Too many false positives become BITEy. There are alternatives, like discussing the matter with the editor in question or using {{userpage blanked}}. Requesting speedy deletion should be the last course of action, never the first. I think you misunderstand what we consider unambiguous vandalism or webhosting. (I am not watching this page, so please ping me if you want my attention.) AFC reviewer?

[edit]

Hello, Hayleez,

I was looking over Draft:Syntechno and saw that you reviewed this draft. Please read over the guidelines at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants. You do not yet meet the criteria to be an AFC reviewer, you do not have enough experience. Above all, it says that you need to post a request to be a reviewer at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants. I can see you are a very eager editor but please do not review any more drafts until you get approval from the crew at AFC to do so. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:29, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fix broken markup

[edit]

NOTE TO @Hayleez: The color/style markup in your 23:09, 13 August 2021 UTC post to User talk:Igor erferger isn't properly closed. That needs to be fixed so that it won't continue to have the effect of passing the same color/style on to all subsequent messages from other editors. – Athaenara 09:30, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Hayleez,

Thank you for your recent CSD tagging, it's been very helpful. But I had a question about this page. This draft was due to be deleted in 2 days as a CSD G13 because it hadn't been edited in six months but now it has been edited and if the deletion tag is removed, it'll take another six months before it is eligible for G13 deletion again. I ran into this problem with another expiring draft today that was due to be deleted in 3 days as a G13 but now has been tagged for a WP:MFD discussion which just prolongs its existence on Wikipedia because before this afternoon, it hadn't been edited since March 28th.

If you see a pointless draft that is nearing its six month expiration date, it's easiest to let it be deleted as a stale draft rather than taking your chances with a deletion tagging. This recommendation excludes drafts that have BLP or copyright violating content. But most of these "joke" drafts are harmless and should be left to go stale. If it is a newer draft, say, last edited in the past 2 months, feel free to tag it for deletion. But with CSD, PRODs and MFDs, there is always the chance it will be untagged or there will be a kept decision (a long shot with most of these pages but a possibility). With most of these pages, the page creators will not be returning to Wikipedia and their blank or goofy drafts can just go stale and be deleted.

Thanks again for your work! Liz Read! Talk! 23:38, 24 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More CSD issues

[edit]

Hi, Hayleez. I see that Liz, Ponyo, and others have spoken to you in the past about CSD tagging. I noticed that of your recent taggings, a number still had issues:

  • You tagged a number of in-use categories with CSD G5, which does not apply to in-use categories. (I'll admit that I myself only recently learned that that's a written-down rule, but I'd previously treated it as common sense.)
  • You tagged Kit14444's userpage with G5. That is technically a valid G5, but there's really no reason to do it. There's nothing of substance on the userpage, and they haven't edited in two years. Part of good CSD tagging is knowing which things may technically be violations but aren't worth the trouble of deleting. After all, every time you tag something, that takes away admin resources from other pages.
  • You tagged Draft:Thirty Nine with G2 (which I've reverted). All I can really say is, that's not a G2. A "test page" is something along the lines of "this is a test" or "lol does this work?" or "lorem ipsum dolor sit amet". Not just an infobox-only draft.
  • You tagged User:Simbaqwefznisye8fbzsyebgizjmqyeb/sandbox/Marvel with G3. The "ugottrolled" at the end I guess maybe technically makes it that? Mostly, though, it looks like a test page in a sandbox, which is where test pages are supposed to go. Again, you have to consider whether it's worth taking an admin's time with something like this.
  • You tagged Draft:Racy sarcasm with G2. It's a very low-quality draft, but it is still an attempt at creating encyclopedic content, so again, not a test page.

I'm not an admin, so you can take this as you will, but: Can I politely suggest you try to focus more on other areas of the encyclopedia? I really appreciate the enthusiasm you're bringing to CSD, but maybe it would be better used elsewhere. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 19:15, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Hayleez. I came to your talk page intending to give you some advice relating to several inappropriate speedy deletion nominations you have made recently. However, when I got here I was astonished at the number of messages you have received about this, over a period of three months. Since explaining to you what the problems are doesn't work, and asking you to stop making speedy deletion nominations doesn't work, I am telling you now to stop. If you choose to ignore that instruction, then the very first time I see you make another inappropriate nomination I shall block you from editing, without further notice. Any slight benefit which may come from some good speedy deletion nominations you make is far outweighed by the time you waste for other editors by all your bad nominations. JBW (talk) 20:37, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bad speedy deletion nominations can have major consequences

[edit]

Hello, in August you nominated Nelson Bay, New South Wales, which was then a redirect to a major Australian town from a title using a state name, for speedy deletion, citing CSD G5. It was then deleted by Liz, therefore causing major, major link breakage! I've reversed the undiscussed move made by the banned user AussieCoinCollector so the links work as intended now, but this could have all been avoided if you'd been more careful. I echo the advice of those above that you should not to deal with speedy deletions for a long, long while, if ever. I only discovered this because of an edit to List of places in New South Wales by population, which is on my watchlist. Graham87 16:26, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion tagging, again

[edit]

Dear Hayleez,

Another message about your speedy deletion tagging. You tagged a lot of User pages for CSD G5, the work of a blocked sockpuppet master. While you were technically correct, there is really no use in going back and checking old sockpuppets' User pages, looking for pages to tag for deletion. It really doesn't matter if a sockpuppet has a blank Sandbox or Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure pages, these are not the pages that CSD G5 criteria was meant for. But what I'm concerned about is that it looks like you are spending your precious time on Wikipedia tracking down pages to tag for deletion instead of doing more productive work. Looking at your Edit Count, 36.5% of your edits are to deleted pages which is a lot of deletion tagging.

If you look at all of the messages on your talk page, you are getting quite a few messages from editors and admins who want to see you do other activities besides speedy deletion tagging. There is article creation, copyediting, counter-vandalism work, learning about deletion discussions, joining a WikiProject or two, so many other things you could do and other things you could learn about. What I fear is that the next admin who finds problems with your work will give you a block in order to get your attention. Please read over the messages you have been getting over the past few months and explore what other activities you could do on Wikipedia. If you have trouble finding them, head over the the Teahouse which is a place created just for questions like this. Liz Read! Talk! 03:41, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Block

[edit]
Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked temporarily from editing for persistent unhelpful speedy deletion nominations. In view of all the messages above, there is no need to add any further explanation. This is a fairly short block, in the hope that it will finally prompt you to take notice, where messages warning you have had no effect, but please take note that if you continue in the same way after this block, you may well be blocked from editing for considerably longer. Just stop making speedy deletion nominations. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  JBW (talk) 20:54, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
