Notice

The file File:I Will Survive Gloria Gaynor.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The front sleeve of a US vinyl single is adequate enough for better understanding of the topic. The free alternative File:Gloria Gaynor (1976).jpg is used as alternative to this German/French cover. Therefore, this image may fail WP:NFCC, especially the contextual significance criterion.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Uncut

[edit]

I have generally used numbers (e.g. 3/5) rather than stars (i.e. ) for Uncut reviews because if you read their album reviews (like this one), you will find numbers, but no stars (like Spin or Pitchfork). However I noticed that you seem to like formatting these reviews with stars, e.g. in this recent edit to Tyrannosaurus Hives. Why did you format this rating with the starred rating template rather than just the numbers if the review (which is here) did not use stars? IntoThinAir (talk) 04:05, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Pre-April 2012 Uncut reviews were originally published in the print edition of the magazine (and on the website too, initially) with star ratings (as indicated here), and hence I format them with stars too. Sometime after that date (when the magazine switched to an out-of-10 rating scale) the Uncut website was updated and the older review ratings were converted from stars to numerals (which also renders the site somewhat confusing, as the out-of-5 and out-of-10 reviews are indistinguishable from one another). As a result I generally add issue and page number information for these older reviews to indicate that I'm sourcing the star rating from the print edition, though in hindsight I do acknowledge that linking to the website as well might cause confusion. In the future I might consider just omitting the Uncut website links altogether or using archived links of the older Uncut site (where the ratings display as stars). Ratings for Bros albums

[edit]

Hi Holiday56, would you mind doing me a favour if you have the time? I was just wondering if you could find scores for the three Bros albums Push, The Time and Changing Faces in The Encyclopedia of Popular Music or any other sources that you have, and add them to the album ratings template on each article. Thanks very much. Richard3120 (talk) 22:50, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Editing summary exclusion/possibility of addition of unnecessary information

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks!

Thank you for adding a lot of information to the page Punk (Chai album). However, you did not use the edit summary. Adding a lot of information to a page without providing an edit summary may cause concern over the addition of unnecessary information, and even further, vandalism.

Hard Normal Daddy

[edit]

Hey Holiday, could you add some prose to the review of the Squarepusher album you added a review too? Ratings are good, but putting them in context of what the reviewer said or felt about the album makes the article better. Any chance you could squeeze it in? :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:32, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changing the order of ref parameters

[edit]

Hi. I don't know if it's a regular thing you do or not, but another has told me that at least on one article (Air's Le voyage dans la lune), you changed the order of reference parameters. Some editors might not care so much, but this is an unnecessary change and really only comes down to personal preference. I see no real reason to have done this. Yes, you made some beneficial changes, but things like WP:RETAIN and WP:CITEVAR come into play here—even if you are copyediting and "improving" an article, unless the citation order is wildly inconsistent, if there is a(n attempt at a) consistent order, like where author and date parameters go, it should not be changed without good reason to do so. Ss112 08:22, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in regards to your edit on ...I Care Because You Do here, I'm not sure why you removed Marc Weidenbaum as the author. He is credited directly after as having written the section on the album in that article. We don't have to credit all authors who contributed to the article, only of the applicable section. Ss112 09:41, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I apologise for reverting your edit. I mistakingly thought you added Fredette's surname twice when you actually remove it. I was on autopilot checking my watchlist. My bad. Thank you for catching that. De88 (talk) 05:26, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Holiday56. I'm just posting to let you know that List of Billboard number-one rap singles of the 1980s and 1990s – a list that you have been heavily involved with – has been chosen to appear on the Main Page as Today's featured list for January 17, 2020. The TFL blurb can be seen here. If you have any thoughts on the selection, please post them on my talk page or at TFL talk. Regards, Giants2008 (Talk) 01:34, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
