Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 16:51, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

Having read through all the guidelines and information pages relating to the matter, I understand that my account has been blocked for numerous reasons. Firstly my username contravenes the guidelines set out as it implies it is going to be used by a group of people other than myself. I understand that this is not permitted by Wikipedia, and I can assure you this will not be the case. Secondly, I now see that the contents of the page could be seen as self-promotion. This was not the intention at all, and so I would like to thoroughly revise each section to reflect only facts to be used as a reference for anyone interested in studying any of the contemporary artists HUS Gallery currently represent. Should my account be unblocked I intend to make information regarding represented artists available as a valuable resource to anyone interested in, or studying those particular artists or associated artworks. The contemporary art world is constantly changing and evolving, and I intend to use the page to reflect the changes within our own corner of that world, such as which artists are currently represented and contribute up to date information regarding exhibitions of works, and links to artists profiles and other relevant outputs so that the information is always readily available and as neutral as possible. I do not intend the page to be used as self-promotion, just as an information page for those interested in contemporary art and the London art scene.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. This unblock is conditional: you may not directly edit the page Hus Gallery (except to revert obvious vandalism or violations of Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy), although you are welcome to suggest edits on the article's talkpage. If you break this condition, any administrator may immediately reinstate the indefinite block without warning or consultation.Yunshui  12:33, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hus Gallery (talk) 15:09, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 16:05, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your swift response. I understand and appreciate that Wikipedia is not a business directory, and i have no intention of using it as one. I feel confident that I understand the term COI and will make sure all edits are considered very seriously in light of this. I understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, and believe that the article should be amended to reflect it's notable nature. I.e relevance to contemporary art and making information regarding practising artists available to the public Hus Gallery (talk) 16:52, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daniel, can you please let me know what is happening with my request for a name change? As you can see from my previous response I am now fully aware of the situation and can assure you the page will not be used as a promotional tool or a business directory. I would like to know if my name change has been accepted and if I am now able to make the necessary edits? Could you please let me know what I need to do next? Many thanks, kindest regards. Hus Gallery (talk) 13:13, 28 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I for one would not currently be comfortable unblocking your account - even with a new username - if it is your intention to continue editing the Hus Gallery page directly. If you would be willing to agree to restrict yourself to proposing changes on the article's talkpage, using the {{edit request}} template, then I'd certainly consider unblocking your account to allow you to file for a change of username. Yunshui  11:32, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I would be happy to submit edits for review. At the moment the information on the page is incorrect and just needs to be updated to reflect relevant factual information, so I am willing to agree to have my edits restricted. Please tell me what I should do next. Many thanks 81.133.126.30 (talk) 11:09, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, in that case I'll ask the blocking admin to take another look at the account, and assuming he's happy too, one or other of us will unblock. Yunshui  11:16, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Yunshui, I'll await instruction after you have submitted the request. I wonder would it be better to recreate the article as a stub? Many thanks Hus Gallery (talk) 11:25, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Yunshui has chosen to consult the blocking administrator, and we will see what emerges from that. However, if you can say that your editing "could be seen as self-promotion", it seems improbable that you have sufficient ability to see your own writing objectively to be able to write neutrally on the subject. Your edit was completely and blatantly promotional, with no "could be seen" about it. Also, you are damned lucky that the original version of the article wasn't speedily deleted as pure spam almost as soon as it was created. It is only because other editors have reduced the promotional content that the article still exists at all. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:57, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your opinion JamesBWatson, I will certainly take your comments on board, although I do find your tone a little aggressive. It has never been my intention to offend anyone, this process has been a learning experience and I am taking on board all the advice that has been given. I am confident in my own ability to re-write the article as it should have initially been written, but am happy to be restricted and have any future edits submitted for approval. I am trying to amend mistakes that have been made, I understand previous edits have been unacceptable and I apologise if this has offended anyone. Hus Gallery (talk) 12:25, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I apologise for the tone of my comments. I accept that I did not choose the best way to express myself. I know from my own experience when I first started editing Wikipedia that it can be intimidating to a newcomer, and I had no intention of contributing to that sort of experience for you. Hi, I submitted my request for change of username as permitted last week, but I'm unsure whether it has been allowed/actioned? How will I know when I am able to submit edits for approval? Thank you in advance for your help in this matter. Hus Gallery (talk) 15:21, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, your username has been changed, as you can see at the top of this page, so you are good to go. Do read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide; it is hard for new users, because we do not do enough to explain it, to understand just how austere is Wikipedia's attitude to promotion. What may seem to you to be "just telling the world" about your gallery or your clients is not what an encyclopedia is about - there are sites like Myspace and Facebook for that, but if Wikipedia is more useful than those sites, it is only because it has more demanding standards. Re-reading this, I am puzzled to see that although your account was renamed three days ago, your today's message today bears the old signature. I'm not sure how that could happen: next time you log in, make sure that on the Login form the name in the "Username" box is "Jackie Hus", and check that your ~~~~ signature comes out as that. If not, leave a message for me and I will look into it. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:50, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your username problem

[edit]

This is very puzzling. Please do a final check for me: log out now and then log in again, making sure that the name in the "Username" box on the login form is "Jackie Hus". Then write a reply for me below here, confirming that you did that, and sign it with ~~~~. If it still comes up with the "Gallery" signature, I will ask for help from the Bureaucrats, who actually do account renamings. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:20, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

John's right: what happened is that you're still logged into the old "Hus Gallery" name, and the software automatically re-created a "Hus Gallery" account for you. (For the record, I *think* this is a side effect of SUL: the Hus Gallery account doesn't exist on en.wiki, because of the rename, but it wasn't renamed on all the other sites, so SUL automatically re-created it for Jackie when they tried to log in with the Hus Gallery name.) As John says, try logging out, and then be sure to log in with the name "Jackie Hus", and that should fix the problem. Writ Keeper  22:27, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

See WP:PSCOI. The best way is to propose changes on the article talk page, and let someone uninvolved make them. If there is no response after a few days, put {{helpme}} on the page, to attract someone. JohnCD (talk) 22:25, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John, I think it has changed over now? 81.133.126.30 (talk) 10:55, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh hold on, how about now? Jackie Hus (talk) 11:00, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's got it. Just make sure you sign in like that from now on. Yunshui  11:01, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
