Conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Joanne Lefson. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. – Athaenara 02:23, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that your user page is not article space, or space to draft an article. It is a place for you to tell about yourself as a Wikipedia editor or user. Autobiographical articles, while not forbidden, are strongly discouraged, please review the autobiography policy. To succeed in writing one, you would need to set aside everything you know about yourself and only write based on the content of independent reliable sources that demonstrate how you meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable person. If you truly feel that you can do that, you should use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft. (new users cannot directly create articles) 331dot (talk) 07:10, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, Joanne Lefson, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username.

If you choose to keep your current username, please send an email to info-en@wikimedia.org including your real name and your Wikipedia username to receive instructions from our volunteer response team about account verification. Please do not send documentation without being requested to do so.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our username policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you wish for your existing contributions to carry over under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" from their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a change of name request.
  3. Your requested new username cannot already be in use. Therefore, please check the list here to see if a name is taken prior to requesting a change of name.
Appeals: If, after reading the guide to appealing blocks you believe you were blocked in error, then you may appeal this block by adding {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice. Orange Mike | Talk 15:56, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me to understand why I have suddenly been blocked

[edit]

Hi there,

I have corresponded with a number of Wikipedia moderators over the course of the past two weeks, most of whom have been extremely helpful in helping me to understand the required procedures for uploading a new article on Wikipedia. As far as I am aware, there is absolutely no rule prohibited me from creating non-promotional pages relating to well-known and widely covered characters in my life. For example, I recently had a page published on Pigcasso, a painting pig that I rescued who has received wide international coverage from reputable media platforms such as NBC, CNN, Saturday Night Live, and so forth. I have always been completely candid about who I am and even included a COI tag on my own user page following the advice of a previous moderator, to ensure that there was full disclosure. I was in the process of making a similar upload for Oscar, a dog who travelled the world with me and received an equal share of international media coverage for his exploits. I am not seeking to publish a page for myself and I was making good headway with the Oscar page following very helpful advice before being abruptly blocked today. I cannot emphasise enough that these are not promotional pages. I have been exceptionally careful to provide balanced, thoroughly referenced information about Pigcasso and Oscar, and had both articles critically examined prior to upload for traces of bias as I know this is a huge issue for Wikipedia. Please could you provide me with a more detailed explanation (beyond the fact that I am "a well known person") for why I have now been blocked and advise how I can remedy the Oscar page so that it passes muster.

Many kind thanks,

Joanne

Unblock appeal

[edit]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Joanne Lefson (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Please see the above comment on my talk page. I would really love some more substantive feedback. Please could a moderator get back to me. Thank you!

Decline reason:

The username is as far as I can see the only reason for the block—we do want to prevent bad actors from impersonating famous people here, and we don't really have a verification system like Twitter.

Per the instructions in the block notice, you need to get in touch with the Foundation office and establish that you really are Joanne Lefson, and to my understanding they will take care of everything from there. — Daniel Case (talk) 02:50, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
