The Cascades
[edit]I'm afraid that your edit, on behalf of Mr. Gummoe, contravened several of Wikipedia's core principles. I strongly suggest that you read some of the guidance on how to edit here, such as this on neutrality, this on conflicts of interest, this on the need for verifiable reliable sources to be used, and this on writing biographical articles about living people. - Thank you for your comments. I suggest that you indicate on the article talk page - here - what is wrong with the current version, and - very importantly - please provide independent, verifiable sources for your information. Simply saying that "it's true" or "it's untrue", based on your personal knowledge, is not, I'm afraid, sufficient, and also falls foul of Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest. Wikipedia works on the basis of verifiability rather than truth - essentially it republishes what has already been published elsewhere, rather than making new information public. Having said that, it also has responsibilities to provide correct information, particularly about living people. So, it is important that you clearly set out on the talk page the aspects of the current version of the article that are inaccurate, so that any necessary clarifications can be made in the article. Just one final point - the article is not "my" article in any way - like anyone else, I am simply one of a number of (unpaid volunteer) editors who have had an input to the article over the years. - I think that the best way forward on this would be if the information that is factually incorrect were to be removed, and (where necessary) accurate information inserted to replace it, but with a "tag" to say that the new information is unreferenced. What would not be correct would be to include in the article information that is clearly non-neutral, if there are any matters about the group's history which are disputed or contentious. On those matters, Wikipedia should take a neutral position rather than setting out the opinions of one or other party. The article should also be encyclopedic in style, rather than promotional in any way. If you could explain on the talk page the main errors in the current article, I will undertake to look at it in a few days time and (hopefully) make any necessary corrections. Of course, if you think you can find a suitable wording that takes account of the Wikipedia guidelines on article writing - not written by Mr Gummoe - you are completely free to make any edits yourself. [[:]] John Claude and I cannot thank you enough for offering to correct the errors on the Wikipedia page for the Cascades! Again, the source of this information is John Claude Gummoe. Here are the items to be changed/added: First paragraph Change USS Ticonderoga (CV-14) to USS Jason (AR-8) Please use John Claude Gummoe, rather than just John Gummoe When the group was the Thundernotes, Lenny Green played guitar. He left after Eddie Snyder joined the group
Second paragraph Replace the name Phil Spector with Barry DeVorzon -- Phil Spector had nothing to do with naming the group -- as mentioned below, he did not even know who they were Remove the word "supposedly" in line 3 when talking about how the group was named by Barry DeVorzon and insert the word "dishwashing" in front of detergent. If possible, add the recounting of this brief encounter with Phil Spector: When the Cascades were recording the “Rhythm of the Rain” LP at Gold Star Studios, Phil Spector stopped in. As everyone was listening to playback of the recordings, Spector asked if the Cascades were doing demos for Ricky Nelson, much to the amusement of the group.

Additional information to add to end of Wikipedia page: The Cascades got back together for a show at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles in 1995. The group again reformed in 2004 and has done several successful tours to Asia--mainly The Philippines, where the group has a faithful following of Filipino Fans. In May, 2010 John Claude Gummoe (backed by Christian and Joan Carrasco, members of The Earth Angels, a Doo-Wop group from Barcelona, Spain) performed "Rhythm of the Rain" for the PBS Special “Rock, Pop and Doo-Wop.” This performance first aired on PBS in March 2011 and is on the PBS DVD.” John Claude continues to perform at concerts around the U.S. and in the Philippines.
If possible, please change the wording under the photo to read as follows: John Claude Gummoe and the Carrasco brothers (members of The Earth Angels, a doo-wop group from Barcelona, Spain) at their performance for the PBS Special "Rock, Pop and Doo-Wop" in May, 2010.

- Thank you - but, I must emphasise again, are there any existing, authoritative, independent, written sources that support your information? Without independent verification, it will be difficult to support some of the changes you would like to see. If, for example, most reliable sources refer to Mr Gummoe as "John Gummoe" (and I don't know if they do, as I haven't yet checked), Wikipedia should do the same. [[:]] Sorry, but I am not sure what to say about "existing, authoritative, independent, written" sources. We seem to be stuck in a loop here. Again, the information I provided to you is coming directly from John Claude Gummoe. He has been fighting for years to correct mistakes written about the group's history, in Wikipedia and elsewhere. He is hoping that Wikipedia can become the written source for accurate information. Can't we trust the information provided by the group's founder more than someone who reads a comment somewhere else (such as the Phil Spector story), and lists it as a reference? Please feel free to contact John Claude directly at RAINSONG4U@AOL.COM Here is how he signs his bio info: John Claude Gummoe, Composer of "Rhythm of the Rain" and lead singer with The Cascades. Other sites may just leave out "Claude" but he is very intent on being known by his full name and that is the way it appears on the PBS DVD just released and on all concert material for his performances. John Claude would be happy to email you back directly with any information you may need. Thanks again for your prompt reply and help. I hope that with John Claude's assistance, you can provide him with a proper Wikipedia page, which is important to him.
- I have made some edits to the article, which I hope go some way towards meeting your requests - though I would not be surprised if other more scrupulous editors were to question one or two of the sources I've used. Just out of curiosity, I noticed that the photo with my friends from the Earth Angels is no longer on the page, nor did you add the fact that John appeared on this nationally-televised show. If there is not room for that information, I understand. Again, thanks for your efforts on behalf of John Claude and me!
