Cozy games DYK

[edit]

Just continuing the conversation here! No problem! I've heard the term so much and saw very little organized research for it, so I thought I'd try to spin it into an article. Hope people get some information from it! Thanks again for nominating it for a DYK spot. :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 01:33, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2024 in France, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Independent. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

CycloneYoris talk! 01:00, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I know it seems like a lot of opposes, but WP:CONS advises you to judge on strength of argument, not numbers, and there's no reason not to relist if that's unclear. If the last subthread had a question posted in at 14:42, and it's not answered yet why do you want to close at 22:41 the same day? --Joy (talk) 15:00, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I forgot that I should not focus only on the number of supports/opposes but also on policy like the fact that it is not based on personal opinions. Plus it seems clear that as they stated, that the Belgian town is the primary topic as it receives more views than the rest. If you want the discussion to be reopened/relisted, then thats fine with me. It looks like I actually read most of it, I just didn't think I need to leave a reasonable time for someone to answer the question at 10:40 UTC yesterday before closing it. JuniperChill (talk) 17:00, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I won't be able to reply until at least 18:00 UK time as I am away for a long day out. I guess I shouldn't have closed the discussion the day before I go on a long day trip out. Lesson learned. Anyone can relist/reopen the discussion as they wish as I won't be able to be on wiki until at least 18 hours from now. (I think involved editors are allowed to relist). JuniperChill (talk) 23:22, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've relisted it for you. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 07:54, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:East Midlands franchaise indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 22:41, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, JuniperChill,
I believe you meant "franchise" not "franchaise" which is the French spelling. Liz Read! Talk! 20:07, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As sure thing @Liz! The problem is that Wikipedia doesn't allow anyone to rename categories for some reason despite the fact anyone can rename pages. It looks like I forgot how to spell franchise to the point I accidentally end up using the French word instead. Category:East Midlands franchise is the correct way. I have accidentally used ananas for pineapple a few times but I just forgot to spell franchise correctly. JuniperChill (talk) 20:17, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A9 dualling project

[edit]

Good work on the A9 dualling project. I've added some further additions. I've only just seen its also DYK but the recent changes do not concern the DYK statement and associated references so will not affect your DYK.

I also think you deserve a barnstar for your work to date. Many thanks. Coldupnorth (talk) 11:18, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much Coldupnorth for both this comment and the barnstar! I was actually intending to expand it further after it appeared on the main page. Good job on the expanding the A9 article! It's once of the best articles I have done. It's my second page after Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly and both of them went on to DYK. I have interests in transport infrastructure projects (including my contributions at Midland Main Line upgrade). Despite being one of Scotland's largest infrastructure projects, it never had an article until 2 weeks ago so if the MML project has an article of its own, I did the same for the A9. JuniperChill (talk) 16:50, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Good work on the MML article too. Certainly both warrant their own standalone articles so glad to see you've got them going. Your confusion

[edit]

I see you already undid your edit here (because it is present in the source) [1] but reading up on British North America might help your confusion. The guy was buying land on behalf of Britain, it makes sense that this was the currency he was using. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 14:33, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Clovermoss, The reason why I wanted to add a {{cn}} tag is because it threw me off when (using ctrl+f) I couldn't find anything with the £ symbol and instead of saying £75, it said on the cited article "We have received, as payment, Seventy Five pounds sterling", which is a very unusual way of saying it. But maybe that's the standard in the 19th century. I also couldn't find any matches of $ or dollar(s), but eventually found matches of pound(s). I was just too fast.
I was also editing because I wanted to change £)75 to £75, because 1, I needed to remove the stray brackets (main reason) and 2, I think linking pound sterling is considered to be overlinking. Although now I get it that pounds was being used at the time. JuniperChill (talk) 17:57, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the phrasing was changed by another editor. It used to say "Land within the James Bay Peninsula was purchased for 75 sterling pounds", see this edit where it was changed. [2] I thought the linking of "sterling pounds" was a good idea because it's not really a currency that's used in Canada anymore and readers like me might want to learn more about it. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 18:03, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have decided to restore the link and used pound sterling (since that's used in an international context by looking at that Wikipedia article) because it's unnatural to only link £ and not the number. I didn't think pound sterling may have been a helpful link for readers, especially when it was their former currency. It may be considered overlinking in a UK article (where I'm from) but not a Canadian one. JuniperChill (talk) 18:27, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
