Why your edits to Art Spiegelman were deleted

[edit]

Hello. I wanted to explain why your edits to Art Spiegelman were deleted. You indicated that you have a close relationship with the subject. Wikipedia has a policy about Wikipedia:Conflicts of interest that I encourage you to read. If you feel that you have information that should be added to the article, you can ask at the articles talk page, or at the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard. I'm sorry all that work you put into the edit was deleted and I hope you stick around to edit some more. --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 05:35, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi-- I am not trying to aggrandize myself. I really feel this information is important to the topic. Art has mentioned me several times, though not always by name, in his works MAUS and METAMAUS. Essentially I thought it would be interesting to connect A.S. to Quarry Hill Creative Center and Irving Fiske, my father, with whom Art has mentioned he was "involved." He was my boyfriend in the Sixties and for a while in the 1970s. Many people can affirm this. I was with him when his mother killed herself (MAUS, "Prisoner on the Hell Planet"). (He mentions me there under my real first name, Isabella). I was his girlfriend for a long time and he was involved with a "commune" and Irving Fiske (METAMAUS, PP 24-25). SO THESE things are true and he has admitted them. How could they be edited into the article? I don't care if I do it or not. Just someone might want to show that this was true and to connect it to Irving and Quarry Hill Creative Center, as Art did have a long connection with us. I still care about Art and am not trying to hurt him. He has admitted the relationship. If you can figure out a way for this info, or some of it, to get in there, let me know! 00:32, 14 October 2013 (UTC) (Isabella Fiske McFarlin) Thanks for your kind tone.

This makes for an interesting story but in order for Wikipedia to cover it, see Wikipedia:Citing sources. We need a reliable source discussing your relationship.Dkriegls (talk to me!) 07:10, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, Well, Art himself has mentioned me in a number of his publications. I don't know what other source could possibly be more "reliable!" Ladybelle Fiske (talk) 23:49, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, being reliable is a start. But we also need to assess whether it is WP:Notable. Not everyone he mentioned in his books played a role in the event's that make him notable. The best way to go about this is to present a quote from one of his books that you think equates to a notable event in his life, not just that you were there, but that you contributed in some significant way. I can help you assess how we can insert that into the article. If you are not mentioned by name, it will fall on you to prove the reference is to you. Another and better way to do this is to find some outside news source that mentions your relationship with him. Dkriegls (talk to me!) 23:57, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The most direct reference Art has made to me in recent years: See pp. 24-25 of "MetaMaus" which I believe was published in 2011 or 2012. On that page Art mentions "my girlfriend" and says I am the daughter of Irving Fiske (see his Wikipedia entry), "The Mr. Natural of the commune I was involved with." He means Quarry Hill Creative Center (see its Wikipedia entry). Also, I am mentioned in "Prisoner on the Hell Planet", a segment of "Maus, a Survivor's Tale,"by name, "Isabella-- my parents didn't like her." I was significant in that I was with Art at the time of his mother's suicide, was his lover for several years in the mid-Sixties and again for a short time in the 1970s, and he and his wife, Françoise Mouly and their children visited Quarry Hill and me (staying in my home) up into the early 1990s. In "Maus" there is a passage in which a friend comes to Art to tell him that his father has had a heart attack while they are "visiting friends in Vermont." They were not actually staying on QH at that time, but nearby. I don't know what else to tell you. There are mentions of our relationship, and photographs, on Facebook. I believe I was and continue on some level to be significant in Spiegelman's life, as I was a friend or lover for many years; he worked on MAUS in my personal writing cabin at Quarry Hill Creative Center several times, and I was a person to whom he turned for help on several occasions. I am working on a memoir regarding my life, including this relationship (I am also friends with R. Crumb, Trina Robbins, and many other UG cartoonists). In 1978 Art, Françoise and several QH people opened a picture rubber stamp company together, for which Art designed the catalogue, and we sold his stamp images for at least 20 years via mail and internet. There has not been much written about our relationship by others to this date, but many people know, remember and are aware of my significance in his life. I am not even going into some things people don't know about Art when I was with him. If this is not enough then do as you think best. Thanks, Isabella (Ladybelle Fiske) Fiske McFarlin. (I also feel that he was fortunate to have had the chance to be at Quarry Hill in the Sixties and to have been my boyfriend.) Ladybelle Fiske (talk) 13:58, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've added reference to your relationship (as mentioned in MetaMaus) to the Irving Fiske article. I'm not sure if it will be notable enough for the Art Spiegelman article as the editors there have not even mentioned Irving Fiske or Quarry Hill Creative Center. I will take some more time to look it over, but I encourage you to remember that not everyone in his life is notable enough to mention on his rather extensive article. But as I said, I will look it over some more. I do think it is notable enough to mention in the Irving Fiske article. Dkriegls (talk to me!) 22:11, 14 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to ask that ALL references to Art and me, except for the ones on Quarry Hill Creative Center and Irving Fiske and Barbara Hall pages be deleted-- e.g. let's stop talking about it. If you aren't going to use my information (and Art's, for that matter) about our onetime relationship, which seems to me to be a significant part of his life, I would like to ask that all the information I have put here and the discussions back and forth be deleted. I'm tired of the argument, and tired of being made to feel like an old groupie who has delusions of grandeur when such is not the case at all. By the way, the reason that the editors on the Art Spiegelman page edit me out is that they think I'm a name dropper and that it will upset Françoise Mouly. Art and Françoise and their current friends should not, I feel, be able to deny the truth simply because it's inconvenient for them... I was there and I was, essentially, Art's wife or closest human connection years before Françoise. However, I like her and was her friend too. Look, would you please remove AlL references to me and to him that are not in the aforementioned article? Thanks. Ladybelle Fiske (talk) 16:58, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Ladybelle Fiske (talk) 20:38, 6 May 2014 (UTC) The rules are ususally too complex for me.[reply]

I don't know what I was trying to write an article about when my sandbox was deleted or whatever you guys say,but yes, I could have been writing one on Freedom and Unity:The Vermont Movie. I suggest a more sophisticated Wikipedian than myself create this article. It is a valuable movie on the history of Vermont, filmed in Vermont by something like 45 filmmakers (2013). Thanks.
