Indiana Hi-Rail Expansion

[edit]

@Larrysteamfan Hey it's me. So I was just asking for a little help to expand the Indiana Hi-Rail Corporation Page. I already added a few sources to save time. DomtheN&WFan (talk) 14:47, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[1][2][3][4] Hopefully these references should help. Right now, I’m in the middle of studying for exams, but I’ll get back to editing here whenever I can. Larrysteamfan (talk) 16:49, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 22:31, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I already tried the move tab, but it didn’t work, because the old redirect page already existed. What else was I supposed to do? I just spotted another user redirecting the Cotton Belt 819 article, so I figured redirecting those Frisco engine articles might be logical, too. Larrysteamfan (talk) 22:39, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please re-read the note above and do not move pages by cop/pasting their content. Materialscientist (talk) 02:30, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
