Please do not create, maintain or restore hoaxes on Wikipedia, as you did at List of footballers with 500 or more goals. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. Please do not disrupt Wikipedia. Continued disruption will be met with being blocked from editing, or other sanctions. Feel free to take a look at the five pillars of Wikipedia to learn more about this project and how you can contribute constructively. Thank you. gobonobo + c 11:17, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Erwin Helmchen

[edit]

Hi, I see you have recently created an article on Erwin Helmchen. As this article claims he is the highest goal scorer of all time, can you please add further references, or citations for such a high career goals total? The rssff.com cite is maintained by one individual and as such is not reliable on its own. I tried researching myself but could not find anything, and a lot of it was in German.

The article does not list basic information such as when he started playing football, when he retired, which clubs he played for and how many titles or honours he won. If it did I could look into further information to back up the goals total and add further references. As such, it is currently not very reliable.

I could only find out that the team he played for between 1928 and 1945, so between the ages of 21 and 38 which would be his main footballing career, Chemnitzer FC/PSV Chemnitz only won 2 regional leagues (Gauliga Sachsen) in 1935 and 1936, and no German league titles. This does not tally with Helmchen scoring in excess of 980 goals.

This page on the Gauliga Sachsen states that during the eleven years the regional league was running, 10/11 teams only played each other twice, so maximum of 20 games were played per season. This works out at 220 league games in total.

This page states he only played 21 matches in the Central German football championship and 5 matches in DFB Cup.

Neither of these sites back up the claim that Helmchen would have been able to score over 667 goals for PSV Chemnitz or 720 goals in league matches, or 1295 goals in total.

It would be great if you could add further information to get the article up to Wikipedia standards. Thanks! Feudonym (talk) 21:01, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, the site rsssf.com is not maintained by one individual only, but it does not cite its sources and such is not reliable anyway. Feudonym (talk) 21:09, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The stats for Helmchen of RSSSF are with the cooperation of Walter Grüber (it's mentioned). Γεώργιος Τερζής 2 (talk) 18:58, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
