Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mckennaint. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Dave Phillips (maze designer), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 20:14, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:15, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

Your most recent version of Dave Phillips (maze designer) included the single reference, stating:

All Information here was taken from a Dave Phillips Personal Interview and wished all information to be replaced with this.

We cannot accept an unpublished, personal interview with the subject as the sole source of the article. Wikipedia relies on the availability of material published in reliable sources so that the facts in the article are verifiable. Also, please understand that this is an article about Dave Phillips, it is not Phillips' article, and he does not get to control what it says. (See WP:OWN.) You can't just dump in a bunch of unsourced material. It was WP:Original research and just plain advertising. All biographies must have valid sources and that had none. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:22, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
