Welcome and introduction

[edit]

Hi, Mr.Validation. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  23:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
 • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
 • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put helpme and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
 • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
 • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

Re. About our group!

[edit]

When you leave messages, please remember to "sign" your name, by putting ~~~~ (four tilde signs) at the end. This will add your name, and the date and time. You can also do this by clicking the 'sign' button, pictured here.

I have added the above 'welcome' message on the talk page of most of the users that you told me about - Stevenpels (talk · contribs), Insurgent666 (talk · contribs), diazepam92 (talk · contribs), Morphine Pels (talk · contribs), doctor hesabi (talk · contribs), hupaa (talk · contribs) and Great Hunter007 (talk · contribs).

I could not, however, find a user called "persian sky" (or anything similar).

I hope that introduction will make a good starting-point, especially the idea of Play in your user area. For example, create User:USERNAME/test - I suggest that you try it yourself, and encourage the others to make such a test page, and to edit it;

 • They can try putting something in bold, or italics.
This is a flower
 • Add a picture, such as (shown here)
 • Create a == New section heading == and perhaps === Some subheadings ===, and then perhaps look at how references work (shown below).

You may wish to start them off on some edits to Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit (e.g. April, May).

The links in the welcome should also help to get started; please contact me on my talk page, where I will be very happy to help more. Best,  Chzz  ►  23:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Persain sky

[edit]

Hiya, I just had a message, and wrote back to Persain sky (talk · contribs), explaining why I could not find them earlier; their user name is "Persain sky", not "Persian sky".

I've explained that, if they want, they could just create a new account and forget the old one - or, they can just keep the name; it doesn't matter.

We can't delete accounts, because we have to keep the permanent record of who wrote what, for the "creative commons" licencing. It's possible to change a username through WP:CHU but it's a bit complicated; so if a user has very few contributions, it's easier to just create a new account.

Hopefully I explained it clearly enough to them, and wanted to tell you a bit more (in your 'coordinator' role).

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  15:22, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is now fixed; they have made Persian sky (talk · contribs) and I've marked Persain sky (talk · contribs) as 'abandoned'. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  16:02, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tips

[edit]

When you leave a note for another user on their talk page, you should put it in a new section, like this.

To avoid conversations being split over many pages, it is best to reply underneath queries. Then you end up with a threaded conversation, like;

First message here chzz (talk) 00:01, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply here Mr.Validation (talk) 00:10, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
More here chzz (talk) 00:20, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You indent with the colon character, then two colons, etc. etc.

First message here chzz (talk) 00:01, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
:Reply here ~~~~
::More here ~~~~

If the conversation is on your page, rather than the other users talk page, then you may want to let the other user know that you have replied. Go to their talk page, create a new section (called 'Talkback' or something), and put this in,

Mr.Validation ~~~~

...which will look like this;

Hello, Mr.Validation. You have new messages at Mr.Validation's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the Talkback or Tb template.

Mr.Validation (talk) 00:10, 1 April 2009

For more, see Wikipedia:Talk page.

This is just tips/guidance - trying to help establish 'good practice' amongst your group.

I hope it is appropriate for me to leave information like this here, for you?  Chzz  ►  19:48, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
